Muffle vs. Muffled Movement

Post » Tue Dec 20, 2011 7:21 am

from my understanding, correct me if i'm wrong please, but from what i gather muffle > muffled movement?

for example: having muffle enchanted gear like shrouded boots (wearer is muffled and moves silently) is better then getting the perk muffled movement (noise from armor is reduced 50%).

so basically does the muffle enchant negate perks such as muffled movement? and maybe even silence (walking and running does not affect detection)?

how i read the tool tips, i assume that yes muffle is greater then the perk muffled movement and even possible the silence perk.

anyone test this?

This particular question has many dissenting views. From the UESP last I looked it up, the boots have 0.5 magnitudes muffle, and the perk reduces another 0.5, so you need both muffle boots and the perk for silence. I believe the muffle spell does both (or a magnitude of 1.0) (but haven't tested the spell extensively since that is just used to grind)

It seems very effective but I really can't tell for certain.

Wiki has some ideas -

Using both muffle and muffled movement seems to be worth it in game for me. I use a dual cast muffle+invisibility and it seems to make me nearly undetectable even when sprinting.

Wish I knew though, could save me a perk in muffled movement if muffle spell makes it obsolete.
