Skooma disappointing?

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 4:33 am

Who agrees that skooma isn't good enough in Skyrim? If you drink some practically nothing happens to you - I wish there were visible effects, like dizziness or colourful hallucinations or something. I mean come on you're pretty much consuming liquidised drug and your character seems normal. Or am I just not drinking enough?

A little. I wish you had a bit of blurred vision for, say, three hours, and would have a three day penalty to your skills if you don't consume it for a week. Sort of your withdrawal symptoms.

Just like alot of other stuff in Skyrim, Skooma blows. Fallout 3 had a great mod called Better Living through Chems, complete with drugs and active (visual) effects. There's really no valid reasons why Bethesda couldn't do this. It's just laziness on their part...Spending all their time trying to get the bad idea known as radiant story to work instead of actually writing a story like it should've been done from the get go.

There's actually a reason the Skyrim Skooma isn't as impressive as it could be. Apparently a lot of Skooma dealers add water to the skooma, 'watering it down'. Decreasing its potency. This can be heard throughout the game, including from Bandit's random talk.

I would want some effects, even if it's watered down as the guy above me mentioned. It would have been cool if you could run faster as in the previous games like Morrowind and Oblivion and having a pink mist or something appear on your screen. I want blurry screen for ale, Nord mead and other beverages more than skooma effects, though. Would have been fun to roleplay a drunkard

Doesn't sleeping tree sap have a blurred vision effect?

I'm not sure I follow, how does Bethesda not implementing drug usage in a way that you approve of translate to them not writing a good story?

Yeah I agree, they can be bothered to implement small quests and random encounters with dealers; but can't be asked to implement a decent effect.

It's a shame, as I could have RP a genuine drug fiend!! :)

Phon, you don't understand. 'Dev laziness' is the new meme. Is there something we don't like about the game? Is there something we personally feel was left out, something we personally feel should have been put in? The answer is simple, a one-size-fits-all reason for everything we personally don't like about Skyrim. Dev laziness!

Some effects would be nice, yeah. For alcohol as well. Though of course you can always simulate in-game effects by taking a shot of tequila for every drink you have in-game ;)

It needs to have weaknesses like in old games. Lol I read a note in the game (can't remember where I found it) saying that the stuff in Skyrim is watered down. Make it right drug peddlers!

Agreed. Skooma is completely lacking in imagination.

'So how shall we present Skooma this time round team?'
'How about we make it just like a weak stamina potion, only weaker'?
'Yeah thats a great idea, a really unique touch on this unique narcotic that had the potential to be something awesome but wasnt'
