Well, apparently even if you do get Skyrim on the day before the official release you can not yet play it, according to some people... Is this true?

Secondly, does this mean internet is needed to activate Skyrim?

On the PC, yes, internet is needed for activation. It's a Steamworks game.

How about the PS3? I've seen post claim you can't play the game yet, unless you have a Xbox 360 version.
