"Dragonstar" expansion!

Post » Sun May 06, 2012 7:44 pm

For anyone who doesn't already know this lore about The Elder Scrolls:

Dragonstar is a city-state in Hammerfell, just south of the border with High Rock and Skyrim. The city was once home to a gladiatorial team known as the Sacred Rage. During the War of Bend'r-mahk, the forces of Skyrim advanced into Hammerfell and besieged the city. The situation has persisted to at least 3E 432.

The city is divided into western and eastern sections, walled off from each other, each with their own government. Dragonstar East is still under the control of Hammerfell, while Dragonstar West is predominated by Skyrim. An atmosphere of deep mutual distrust prevails between the two sides. The city has an arena pit, a prison and guild halls for the Mages Guild, Fighters Guild and Thieves Guild. Shadowgates can also be found in the city.

(Excerpt from the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Dragonstar.)

I'm thinking that this city-state could be an incredibly solid idea for a city-focused plot like Mournhold of Morrowind, and it even revolves around a Gladiatorial Arena which makes it logical to add an Arena to the game and even a bunch of new exotic weapons. Furthermore, Dragonstar even sounds fitting to the main plot of Skyrim and it's constantly being argued over between Nords and Redguards (allowing for factional conflicts).

Personally, I'd love to see something like this. What about you guys? Discuss!

That would be an extremely interesting change in landscape from Skyrim, it would give Bethesda something fresh to work with. :goodjob:

Sounds like a good idea, kudos to you for the idea. it would make sense for them to do it because there is currently no arena, so that would be nice. It would also add new quests, nps and such and wouldn't be a silly idea for DLC like Horse Armor lol, need I say more?

Certainly one of the better suggestions for a DLC I've read about on this forum, I actually thought about
it myself. It certainly seems like a pristine opportunity to make a DLC that takes you to another place in Tamriel.

HOWEVER. How do we know that the conflict havn't been resolved in the last 200 years, and like Zeppo said, I'd
hate to be confined to one single city.

Whenever Todd or Pete say that they havn't begun thinking about the DLC they are big fat liars - surely they must
have something on the drawing board. I have a slight feeling that the upcoming DLC will be about something that we
have already heard of in the game via rumours or NPC conversations.

You bring up a valid point. I really don't like it when expansion lock you out of the main region. There should be an easy way to transition between Maybe Markarth and Dragonstar, e.g. a cavern system or some stage coach or whatever so you can return at any time and continue the expansion later on.

HOWEVER. How do we know that the conflict havn't been resolved in the last 200 years, and like Zeppo said, I'd

Well, the conflict between two certain real-life religions, without naming any names, has existed for more than a thousand years. So it's not unheard of.

But you got a good point, which is why this expansion plot could shed some more light into the matter - i.e. why has the conflict persisted for so long, or how has it otherwise evolved? Maybe there are different people in a different conflict, or maybe the conflict has seized for a few centuries and then it started again, for whatever reason. There are many possibilities, but you did right by pointing it out because it's important for consistency.

That is an awesome find in UESP, and an even better idea for DLC. I would definitely buy that.

This is a good catch. I would love to see them execute this in Skyrim DLC. Plus I was a little saddened by the news that there are no arenas in Skyrim. They should do this to make up for it, and make it so we can fight people any time we want.
