Skyrim enemy levelling?

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 10:30 am

I've read a few things online stating that the enemy leveling will be similar to fallout 3. Does anyone have anymore information? I've played New Vegas and I disliked how there was this large world, but you were restricted to areas specific for your level (similar to world of warcraft) and I enjoyed oblivion because I could explore the entire world without fear of getting killed by a level 50 bear or something.

Can anyone confirm that the enemy's will level with the character or separate?

or should I just wait until Friday? :P

oh and first post on Bethesda forums! :)

Welcome.

Yes, I've heard that Skyrim's enemy leveling system is much like Fallout's where there can be higher level enemies in one place and lower in another.

It's not like Oblivion's where the enemies level with you.

I remember it being described as the game would kind of be chopped up into "zones" that would be more difficult for you or less depending on the zone.

Sad face :(
I've had a bad experience in New Vegas. I was just running around exploring (what I like to do for fun) and some crazy bug just stings the crap out of me in .5 seconds and I die a horrible painful death.
I guess i can adjust to Skyrim. Its been 5 years so its definitely worth the learning curve to experience this masterpiece :)

Thanks for the welcome :D

the idea that areas are zoned for different levels sounds like a good idea to me. will dragon sightings/attacks depend on these zones?

Welcome!!! (i just joined the other day, too.)

It was infinitely worse in Oblivion, believe me.

Yes it has been confirmed to be similar to Fallout's levelling system. In my opinion this is a good thing though - level scaling almost ruined Oblivion for me, since it made leveling up pointless and there wasn't a sense of danger anywhere at a low level. I guess I just like to feel like a low level at a low level and feel like a high level at a higher one.

It's similar to Fallout 3's, not so much New Vegas's. New Vegas tried to force you down a specific path by placing high level deathclaws directly north from the beginning area so your only reasonable option was to take the road south. New Vegas wasn't designed as an open world game in the way Bethesda's games are, it's more story driven.

Well....
All enemies have level ranges to them
-u run into a bandit at level 5 he will be a challange
-u run into a bandit again at level 20 he will be way easier and he wont have a full set of glass armor either(bandits always wear leather and other low level armors)
-u enter a dungeon that has a level range of 5-10 at level 4
Then all the inhabitants will be locked at 5-6
-u enter it at level 8 then all inhabitants will be level 8-9
-u enter it at level 15 then it will lock out at 10 making you feel much stronger
-enemies will also have level ranges and these are usually stuck to zones
-u cant fight a frost astronach in the mountains at level 7 it will one shot kill you
-important npc's are also high leveled so dont expect to kill the imperial general at level
1
- gaurds are also very high level so he careful who you murder in towns
-loot will also level differently as low level enemies wont have high level gear and vice versa
-u also have the chance to find high level loot by beating high level dungeons or by completing daedric quests

That makes sense. I hope the zones are decently sized. I'll just have to wait and see. Come to think of it, a sense of danger would be nice, I dislike games that are way to easy. Oblivion was not bad, but I see your point and agree.

From what I read in a different thread on this forum Skyrim will use a level scaling based on a range. Basically if you walk into a dungeon with a level range between 10-20 and you are level 15 all the monsters in there will be your level, but if you are level 30 they will only be level 20 max.

I know that some enemies will school you at lower levels, such as giants and mammoths, but I think Thuic is mostly right in his assessment of the scaling. What bothers me is what he said about the guards. I hope they all aren't (or scale to) high level. They shouldn't be any more powerful than a well trained warrior with pretty generic equipment. What should make them an effective deterrent is the sheer number of them working together to take you down.

What are you talking about, that was one of the main reasons I liked New Vegas. It makes sense for some things to beat the living crap out of you if you're level 1.
Not like Oblivion.

Srysly.

New system seems like it will be awesome. I just hope that there's at least a few places that will still be a challenge even when my character is near or at the level cap. Betheseda made a pretty big point about being able to keep playing the same character even after you finish the MQ so they obviously epect people to be getting very high level characters.

Anyone else miss the 'ol Super Boss mechanic from old school RPGs? I love the idea that there's an entity in the world even more powerful than the final boss that you have to be retardedly powerful to beat. Then again, I guess nothing could be stronger than [censored] Alduin lol.

No that would be Cadzadors. Nasty bugs, the big ones kill you real quick. No anti venom ... well maybe you die even if you win. ;) Some people hate em' more than deathclaws.

+1

The higher the risk, the bigger the reward - and it should stay just like that.

The level scaling was one of the biggest complaints with oblivion. Good riddance.

This will make a stealth character very useful when snooping around outside my "Zone"

Also good for illusion magic.
