Skryim Console Commands on Xbox and PS3 Question?

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 6:05 am

Has Bethsada ever said why consoles can't have the console commands? I mean the mods I can somewhat understand... even though I know it's not impossible to do mods on a console... because I know of a game that officially allowed it, it would be hard for Bethsada to have some kind of system in-place to protect people from using mods that could mess up there system/ or save games even though that should be the person using mods responsibility.

But for the console commands I don't get it... both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 support keyboards. The console commands are defined within the parameters of the game so you should not really be able to mess your system up or anything. Is it because MS or Sony won't allow it?

Actually both of the Two Worlds games had console commands, so Microsoft does allow it. It would be nice to use the console, if only for fixing a quest bug or something

Command consoles are the debug and developer system. On the PC, it's accessed directly through the game. On consoles, it's accessed through a PC connected to the developer kit. Since you don't have a developer kit or a PC connecting to it, you can't run commands through it.

Really? Now that's interesting, so if they can do it then why not Bethesda?

I found it with a quick Google search...

Still doesn't explain why they don't put the debug system in the console version... surely it could be done?

Yes it could be done. The system I'd wager IS in the console version its simply disabled. In the game Two Worlds I&II the console is activated by plugging in a key board and pressing the right button combinations on your controller. You then enter a command code that activates the console commands while disabling trophies and achivements. The only reason for Bethesda not to do this for Skyrim is because they choose not to.
A key board isn't actually necessary it just makes it easier to enter the commands.

Ps3/360 players can not fix bugs that Bethesda fails to and if history is to be a judge there will be serious bugs they fail to fix. We can not undo the damage of bugs that have already occured. All we can do is reload a earlier save and hope its not a bug we discover tweleve hours to late. My only computer is a laptop which aren't good for these kind of games and I was never good at the mouse keyboard deal to begin with. So playing the PC version isn't an option. (and its not an option for many of us). So I feel giving 360/PS3 the option to turn on the console commands at the expense of trophies/achivements is a worthy feature.

You can seriously break your game, like you could crash the system, with some console commands.

Bethesda games are known to do that anyway. You can always choose to save before you do something like entering commands. Saving before an unknown bug hits is just luck.
