its hard to judge gameplay vids. it's even had to judge your own gameplay unless you specifically test it.
the thing is, skyrim changes the attacking animation of the PC if the PC is attacking a blocking enemy (as far as i could judge some long long gameplay vids). it looks like he's bashing when he isnt - he's jus normally attacking.
so speculations about what's bashing and how's it's working are taken with a grain of salt if from ppl who havent played the game . no offense, of course.
also, this still doesnt answer my question about bashing with a 1 handed weapon....
EDIT:
i watched a video again (that is no longer online. good thing i DLed it a few days ago while it was available) from "gaming anyone" where the PC was wielding a 2 handed sword and discovered bahsing while trying to learn how to do the nord Battle cry. he did bashin while a draugr was trying to attack and you were correct - it DID stop the draugr in the middle of the attack animation. that's wonderful news to me. it should be a good way to parry and take no damage instead of blocking and do take damage.
Question about bashing with one handed weapon remains.
if bashing was only possible with a weapon and a spell as well or with dual wielding than that would be perfect... but it isnt since it looks like you need to block in order to bash...
