Thread of ideas on how to get yourself as immersed for Skyri

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 4:51 pm

Share your ideas. How do you create a perfect mindset for yourself, in order to really feel like you are part of the game.

I`m going with these atm (hopefully this thread creates more):

* Only use the paper map that comes with the pre-order, mark all the locations there instead of looking at the ingame map. Plan your routes, mark special encounters.
* Make rules for saving.
* Re-adjustment of sleeping rhytms atleast for the first week after 11th; when my wife`s asleep I`m playing Skyrim 8 hours in a row enjoying a harmony that resembles monastery of gaming. Sleep on short sections whenever I can`t fully concentrate into the game.
* Only play when there`s absolutely zero disturbing factors (kind of same as my previous one. :D ).
* Turn off all the communication methods, phone, msn, facebook and such.
* Only for PC to get the most out from the game; if you can`t max it on 1080p, now is the best time ever to upgrade your computer.
* Coffee, coffee and some more coffee.

This one I find a little over the top. MSN, facebook i'm ok with it but phone?
What if there's an emergency, someone you know need your help, anything?

Dude it's just a game.

Curtains closed, lights off, headset on, eyefinity on. Job done.

And yeah turning your phone off is a silly thing to do, silly man.

If there's a emergency and someone is dying... You could simple use a Novice Level Restoration Spell. Duh.

- Turn off lights, close the room's door, open the window a bit (if it's cold where you live) and dress with warm clothes (you don't want to be unconfortable!) to have a chilly feeling (and save money on heating :) ).
- Have some food and drinks that feel elderscrollic (yeah... I'm sure this word exist) : mead, cider, cheese and bread, hot stew, venison, mutton

I actually built something in which my wife can send a text and it will be spoken (text to voice) into my headset so she can still get a hold of me when I'm playing.

Very clever, but the wrong way around. You want to be turning her voice into text.

Hellll no. I have my original Morrowind and Oblivion maps hanging on my wall. No way I'm going to ruin my Skyrim map by putting marks all over it.

Can you build a device that will communicate with my wife while I`m playing, without me even noticing it? If you can you have 1 pre-order. :D

Don't forget things you can do in game as well, like removing the HUD by lowering the opacity.

Other things include sampling delicious mead, and giving a war cry as you slaughter your enemies.

The way I see it, using a paper map means you have to pause the game and look at it. I'd find that very distracting. To me the most immersive experience is sitting down with a pair of headphones on and enjoying it.

And yes phone off everything off, I`m turning off my entire real life while I`m playing this game. People keep calling me for the stupidest reasons, I can`t know their business before answering and if I do I`m back into the real life. Well ofc I can turn my phone silent without vibration, then I can call them all back after I`ve played, it would be smarter.. :D

I think it could be fun to try it out, never done it before. :P Not going to use the paper map for other purposes anyways.

The point is NOT pausing the game and use your paper map to navigate. Looking at it would take the same amount of time as looking at the in-game map. The whole thing here is that there's no "You are here" icon. So you have to work with the environment to know where you are and where you are going. Something like taking a mountain peak as a bearing to make sure you're moving straight from one point to another. Also, using the sun/star to navigate works but it's very tricky IRL (you have to readjust every 15 minutes). In TES, time pass quickly so I'm not sure it's very reliable.

Granted this is not for everyone and if it doesn't appeal to you, no one forces you to do it :) Anything that suits your fancy!
