Skyrim, any reason to explore?

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 1:22 pm

Those of you who may have hands on impressions, how is the loot system? Is it still character level locked? Is it more varied? Does it make exploring fun and rewarding?

Actually researching the game and making up your own educated opinion might do wonders to you, champ. I believe in you. Cheers.

Wait until you get the game and decide for yourself.

Making an educated opinion off what Bethesda says is not very smart. Thats why I asked the players.

Also, if you haven't been paying any attention, there have been a few reviews out. Do research.

How does knowing what will be out there make exploring fun? The fun of exploring should be discovering.

Exploring is usually a lot more enjoyable then running straight to every main quest point and blowing through the game. If thats not reason enough for you to explore maybe skyrim isnt for you

I haven't played it myself. From what I've heard it's more like fallout. Some dungeons lock to your level and stay like that when you return. Some dungeons are far higher than you're level and you have a chance of getting great items early on if you can beat the monsters inside. I hated the system in Oblivion and I think Bethesda listened to their fans and tweaked the system.

Somehow the reviews are suppose to better than Bethesdas word? Think not. If they are user reviews, then ok.

Why not explore? The views are stunning, you can improve your skills while exploring, you get awsome loot and you may find Daedric shrines, which is also awesome.

Players can't be trusted. Players want things like multiplayer and guns in Skyrim.

I think you misunderstood the question. I never implied I wanted to know where everything is, I simply wanted to know if the loot system was the same as oblivions or better.

Exploring is usually a lot more enjoyable then running straight to every main quest point and blowing through the game. If thats not reason enough for you to explore maybe skyrim isnt for you

Random scaling loot makes exploring null and void. My question was if the loot system is better than oblivions.

Not sure why a few of you are getting your panties in a bunch over a simple question, or completely not understanding the question and posting irrelevant replies?

I'm playing and yes it's quite a bit like Fallout 3. Dungeons lock to your level.

SPOILER-FREE STORY:

Today I was exploring a - beautifully designed I might add - dungeon full of supergobbos and past the first room I didn't stand a chance.
I did find a very nice bow and sword though, upgraded from what I already had!
I tried a couple times and died every time so I decided to leave and try another quest. 2 levels later I returned to the same dungeon and the ubergobbos past the first room were still challenging but manageable, and it feels incredibly rewarding.

Have fun on Friday! ;)

EDIT: Maybe slightly more on actual topic: YES, GO EXPLORE! It's way cooler than it was in Oblivion because there's less structure or predictability to Skyrim's map and landscape.

If you enjoyed it in Oblivion, you'll probably enjoy it in Skyrim, too.

There are many easter eggs and strange things to find exploring. Gorgeous vistas and lone creatures and animals, as well as randomly generated events you will stumble upon.

If you enjoyed it in Oblivion, you'll probably enjoy it in Skyrim, too.

I thought the exploration was a huge disappointment in oblivion. Since everything leveled as you did, you knew that when exploring a cave it would almost definitely offer nothing new. You could get glass armor from bandits if you were that level, so why go searching for all the little hidden places.

On a side note... why be a bandit when you have armor that's worth as much as glass armor?.. Greedy ********.

In Morrowind there was a point. You could stumble across epic gear at level one, if you could find a way to get to it. It kept me curious. I was constantly stepping off of the path to see what hidden treasures might be waiting for me. I hope they have brought that back.
