Stupid Question about the PC version

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 2:29 pm

I switched my pre-order to the PC version. Only thing is that there will be more than 1 person playing Skyrim in my house. Since the game requires Steam does that mean only ONE saved game can be played. Or can My brother have his own character and saves, etc. Sorry for the dumb question.

If you're playing the same copy of the game on the same PC then you can have multiple characters, there shouldn't be any problems with that.

You can have different chars on different saves.

Two things:

-autosave will keep overwriting, so make sure you save properly (full save) when you end your turn.
-don't let him overwrite your saves ;)

you set your saves your self, auto saves might delete your previous auto save so it doesn't get clustered that's all

If you're doing it on multiple PCs, you can't both be logged in at the same time. And you may want to disable cloud so your saves don't mix.

If the same PC, just be careful about saves.

Your brother can have his own character and saves, but auto-saves will likely overwrite. Also, only one of you can be playing at a time. If one of you logs into Steam to play, the other will be booted. It should be mentioned that I think sharing accounts breaks Steam TOS.

He can play too but be careful with the saves, there is only one big list and you could easily overwrite wrong one.

I would back-up my saves each time my turn is over.

There's no limit to the number of saves you can have (unless your HDD is completely full), because those files are in your computer and aren't mandated by Steam in any way.

1. Shortcut to (Saves)
2. Folder for your saves. Folder for bro's saves.
3. Copy your saves from/into your folders before/after each turn.

Sharing is against the TOS but between family members it has been accepted with single player games that do not require a constant online connection (Ubisoft games for example). To do that you need to set up one of the PC's to run in https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3160-AGCB-2555 (<-steam support article link)

Yes, backing up your saves is easy. I'd do it just in case. You don't want to lose 100 hours of effort.

Couldn't you also set up different accounts on the PC itself? That would keep your savegames completely separate.

If you mean different Steam accounts, he can't. The Steam account is bound to the game key, so he would need another Skyrim copy for that.
Edit: Oh, you mean different Windows users? that should work, nice idea.

If you don't want to buy multiple copies fo the game and you both ahve your own PC's, it should be easy to do (and it's not against terms fo service since only one person can play the game at any one time).

Just install Steam on each PC. you cna then log in with the same account on the PC where you want to play. When someone else wants to play, you'll have to stop playing and log off so the other player can have his turn.

As for saves, you don't have to disable cloud saves. In fact, don't. this way you can hop on either PC and continue playing your game. Just make sure you guys agree that your saves will be NAME - whatever and you're set.

Obviously you'll have to make sure not to forget to save your game with that named slot before quitting out as auto-saves and quick saves will likely be overwritten.

depends... are you buying 1 copy or 2? because if u have 2 copies, just make 2 steam accounts, and u can play it both of you

if only 1 game, then you can use the same steam but not sure u can play at the same time.

Set your Steam options to DISABLE Steam-Cloud.
And your family will be able to play it on multiple PCs and be offline.
