If Skyrim arrives early can I play it straight away?

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 7:59 am

Seen some people saying that with the PC version you will have to wait till launch day (12am, 11/11/11) to play it on PC, is this true? Guessing some sort of online activation might be required. I'm hoping Play.com delivers it early tomorrow (Thursday) and I can play it straight away! :celebration:

You will have to wait. Steam is handling it all.

No you can't it uses Steamworks on PC, so you can't due to it being locked until the countdown is over.

You can't play until Steam unlocks, and that will be on the 11th, whatever time is appropriate for your timezone.

Pretty much, I should receive my copy tomorrow, so ready for the "midnight" release atleast :D

Edit: Now I'm curious if I can pre-load/install the game from disk. I'm guessing yes?

At least my computer will have better everything compared to a console, so the wait should be worth it.

If I were you, I would download Steam and create an account (if you haven't already), then, after you pick up your game, authenticate it with the serial in you cd case, then preload the game via download and wait till 11/11/11.

there is a way to do so but it downloads I think, forgot the process you need to enter your CD key by activating it through steam.

Valve unlocks it whenever the publisher says they want it unlocked at. Which, in case the publisher doesn't specify a time, defaults to "whenever they get into the office". I know they have a system for automatic launches, I've seen it on a couple big games, Valve just only uses it when asked, probably in case something goes wrong with the launch or something.
