Will a new player enjoy Skyrim without playing the other Eld

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 6:44 am

Hi,

I havent really played any other Elder scrolls game except maybe an hour or two of Oblivion. During that two hours I kind of got lost and didn't really know what to do hahaha so I kind of stopped.

And after watching a lot of videos and reading some news about Skyrim I was hoping to give it another go and give it a bit more time to see if I can adapt to the gameplay style.

Im used to playing a lot of fantasy mmorpg, FPS like bf3, Mass Effect series and Assassins Creed Series. But most of those games spoon feed you with directions whereas skyrim doesn't.

Will Skyrim be Newbie friend for someone who hasnt really played the series? Like how is the learning curve of the game?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreacaited ^_^.

First game is allways the best. But Skyrim may break this rule and be the best.

I haven't played any other TES before but I took my in the last few days to study the lore and I strongly recommend you do the same. It really helps making everything more fun and immersive. Just my opinion.

Sure, you can always revisit the older games and pick up the lore as you go.

If you're lost, just choose a direction, head off, and talk with random NPC's and I'm sure you'll find something to do =P

That's the point. You're supposed to do whatever you want.

If you can't play games like that then I wouldn't recommend Skyrim to you.

dear, god, YES. I started with Oblivion then Morrowind, kinda did it backwards. Learning the lore is a nice bonus, but it won't make a difference in your experience, it's like a new, completely different world every time. The only reason it's an Elder Scrolls game is because each one takes place on the same planet, in the same universe, with the same lore and races.

Don't hesitate buying this one.

Yes, you can jump in and play, newbie friendly. And getting lost and not knowing what to do is the best thing about TES

I will say that if you hate messing with lots of inventory and talking to lots of NPCs, you might not like it very much. It will give you plenty of clues as to where to go, but you do have to read whatever quest journal is in the game if you don't like to pay attention. If you don't like reading at all in games, I'd probably skip Skyrim. If you don't mind reading a bit, then you might be fine.

Not really. Oblivon was my first and after Morrowind it looked awful. Skyrim will likely beat Oblivion but im not sure if its better than Morrowind.

You can play the game without playing others but at least get to know the lore. Well worth it.

Yes, just follow the main quest and during it I'm sure you will end up conversing with some of the Guilds or pick up some side quests.
Your right on TES being a big game, but that's the beauty of it, judging from your comment on not knowing what to do, I'm guessing you like to rush through things?

You should just take things slow, trust me, you will enjoy it ALOT more.

You honestly think it won't be better than Arena, a 17 year old game that looked great for '94 hardware, but was cookie-cutter in just about every other way, even for the time?

I was not a fan of Oblivion or any previous Elder Scrolls. The world was too scripted and boring, which is why I didn't like them. I liked the game system of Fallout, but I hate post-apocalyptic games. I have been playing Skyrim at my friends house, and it is hands down the best game I have ever played.

Hopefully this helps.

Thanks for all the fast replies =D! I will definitely check out the lore and give this game a go. I think it's time I stop getting spoon fed with instructions and directions and play a more mature game where I just explore and pick up quests and play how I want.

Im liking this community cause of all the fast and pleasant replies. ^_^ thanks all!

Not playing the previous games will not hinder your enjoyment. In fact, being unfamiliar with the setting could make it all the better for you! I remember the sense of wonder I had when I first played Morrowind.

Just know that there is a TON of backstory and lore to the universe, so READ the in-game books, and check out uesp.net's lore section if you are interested in the backstory.
