Paper vs Cloth map

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 3:49 am

Hi all,

This is going to sound like a weird question, but I was wondering how i can tell whether i have the paper or the cloth map. As I've pre-ordered the game through a webstore and I should have gotten the cloth map. However, the map in the case feels somewhat like firm paper with some relief on it, so it could be a firm kind of cloth. My assumption was, however, that the cloth map wouldn't be this firm and would be more flexible. Can someone help me out plz, because if I've gotten the wrong version I want to contact the store quickly. Thanks.

Sip some water on it. If the Map′s alright, it′s the cloth one, if it′s ruined it′s paper.

Hey no need to be crabby.

The 'cloth' map is a bit of a misnomer. It's actually high density paper made to finish like a higher strength map. :)

Ok, I guess I've gotten the right one then. :)

It is misleading though as the webstore clearly states a cloth map and not cloth-like (in dutch). But hey doesn't matter as much as steam not letting me play yet.. Grrr... :banghead:

Yeah, some retailers mislabeled the maps as being cloth when Bethesda stated it was made of burlap paper :)

The difference is that the paper map exists and the cloth map does not

I still see cloth map written all over e tailer websites. I posted on ones forum directly to the staff who also use the forum 'Its not a cloth map, its Burlap paper'.

The next post he makes 'Yes all our pre orders will include the cloth map'.

Jokers.

We already established the map was paper, don't confuse even more people by adding blood to the equation. :teehee:

Yeah I've got mine too.. they should have said it was like a paint canvas but paper, though I guess that doesnt sound as great as "burlap" texture. Hopefully Bethesda pays attention to the appeal of a burlap map next time around. I have a bag of rice in a burlap bag, so I compared it with the map just for kicks. Yeaaaah, would have been nice.

There is no true cloth map. Just a regular cloth map for no preorder, and then a burlap map for preorder.

I had no idea till I just read through this thread. Guess I'm guilty of not paying close enough attention then. :( It makes me very sad because a cloth map would have been wonderful.

Just to clarify:

This is burlap:

And this is parchment:

I'm betting that the map is parchment, and not burlap.

Edit: Yes, they have printed maps on burlap in the past, but it doesn't retain ink as long as parchment does.

Well the map i got is neither burlap nor parchment. Its just fairly thick paper with a relief pressed in it, which makes it feel (and look a little bit) like burlap.

By the way:

There is no true cloth map. Just a regular cloth map for no preorder, and then a burlap map for preorder.

To me this is one of the weirdest sentences ever... In your view what is the difference between a true cloth map and a regular cloth map? And what you state is incorrect in any case as we've now established that the preorder contains a high density paper map which feels like burlap. And therefore it is not a burlap map.
