New Map, vision from sky.

The new in-game map looks cool, right? However, it's practicality is a little.. 'chunky', to say the least. Zooming out to the max will not give you a good overall view of the world and it seems zooming in is the main focus of the map, rather than zooming out. I'd honestly want a 2d map in my game rather than the current one, and I'm not judging it by what I've heard and read, but what I've seen. It's easy to use once you get used to it, sure, but whenever you are in the map-mode, you'd want to zoom out much more than you can. Sure, it was like that in oblivion and fallout 3 too.. But not at all in the same way. This time, it's not like you are looking at a map, it's actually like you are the divines looking down on Skyrim, (not from above), but from a sideways angle. It's nothing I can't live with, but I miss the 2d map.

Just wanted to get this out here, I know the map has been discussed to death before, but now more and more (and tomorrow all) will actually have experienced it by themselves and can give a better view on it, other than hypothetically speculating over what a good change it is. At first, I thought it might add something good to the game, but now, I can't say I'm jumping up and down in joy.

It may be possible to mod the maximum view height on the PC - hopefully anyway.

There will most likely be traditional map mods available soon after release. The 3d map is cool, but is kind of immersion breaking. I'd prefer looking at a rugged cloth map in real-time. justthathardcoe.jpg :mohawk:

I liked the Campaign Map from Shogun 2 and I get the impression that this is a lot similar, except with neat weather effects thrown in, so as long as it does tell me where stuff is, I'm cool with it.

Mods ftw, although us console users will be crying bloody tears unless we get used to the new map. :/

@pokeriser: Yes, it does 'show' you where stuff is, but not from an above view, but rather from a slightly sideways view.
