Not based on, but inspired by Odin of Norse mythology.
Also, Tolkien took the name Gandalf from the name of a dvergr/dwarf in the V?luspá.
It means "wand elf" (dvergr/dwarf was another name for svartálfr/dark elf).

Also, I'd pick Nord just to get him tall enough to look like he did in the movies, even though Gandalf wasn't particularly tall in the books.

Totally. I love this image. Obviously a lot of people are going to say Breton for magic stuff, but hell with that. A tall, somewhat withered old Nord will be fantastic for a character like this.

So what would be the best way of doing this? I want to make a Gandalf like wizard(like epicly wise and old) byt yet able to fight with swords. Should i create a warrior or a mage? My prefered race so far is Breton. Human with elf blood.

being a lotr fan boy I did this in oblivion, I made him as a Breton for the magic and specialised him also in blade, light armour etc. I also made a wood elf legolas and an imperial Aragorn :thumbsup:

legolas didn't turn out too well without dual wielding or decent archery but this is where skyrim comes in :biggrin:

Well yeaa.. never read that part. But i really dont know! i'm not a die hard rp'r, i just like to relate to my character for a little while. And my prefered character style would be a gandalf LIKE wizards who is a capable sword fighter too. I need some help since this is my first REAl es experience and dont want to ruin it

Don't create a warrior or a mage. Create a Breton. Have him grab a sword in one hand and get a fireball spell ready in the other. Go forth, shoot fire and stab doods. The character will naturally develop into a warrior mage or "spellsword".
