Mage using staff?

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 3:42 pm

I have searched, but can not find any information about the staff as a prefered Weapon fot the mage. Does anybody know if there are any bonuses for using a staff as a mage? Or if its possible to wield a staff with both hands while casting spells?

If this has been discussed before then perhaps someone knows where I can find the info.

Yes, mages can use a staff. Infact they can duel wield them if they want. No idea what advantages you will gain from using one, other than having enchantments or spells you don't have yet on them.

If it is done like Oblivion, i dont think it will be better for a mage than just using magic, unless it its an awesome staff.

Probably will only have spells on them, and not actual magic bonuses. To be honest I never really liked staffs in Oblivion, only time I ever felt I needed to use them was when I was very low on magic or was silenced. Not sure how Skyrim is going to handle them.

Better question ... if I fight sword + staff and post gameplay videos on YouTube ... will everyone make fun of my wannabe Gandalf playstyle?

Staves are used to cast spells that are stored within them. They're one-handed and basically function like spells, but you can't put the same type of staff in both hands to combine it like with spells. The rate that they use up their charge is determined by your skill in the associated spell.

In my opinion, staves should be less about melee damage and more about storing magic spells through charges. Staves should be easier to enchant.

Not sure how it will be in Skyrim.

I hated staves in Oblivion. They were pathetic other than the fact you can make 500-3k gold per Lich kill though. Here's to hoping staves will be coveted in Skyrim.

In Oblivion, using a staff did not practice any skill (absent mods).
In Skyrim, using a staff practices the enchanting skill.

Gandalf is evil, darn wizards looking into the future and predicting my playstyle, than copying it for their own.
