About Ms. Dravarol

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 4:21 am

So hello guys, i just recieved my PC copy of Skyrim, and I was having a good look at the map, and happened to notice the message below it: ''4E 182, Natalia Dravalor, cartographer''
So, it may be a stupid thing, but I'm curious about this Natalia Dravalor, I know she's the one that also made the Cyrodiil Map for Oblivion, in that map it reads: ''3E 433, Natalia Dravalor, cartographer''
So this thread is mainly for guessing, as we don't know anything at all about this woman, or which race is she. Most certainly not human because of the time lapse between each map.
Any thougts?

The Oblivion one says "Natalia", Skyrim says "Nataly", so it's possible they're not the same person, rather the latter is descended from the former. However, I do think (for some reason) it sounds like a Dunmer name, so it could be the same person with a shortened name.

Indeed. You got a point there. It says Nataly in the Skyrim one, but as I got the spanish version of the map, I thought they may had touched the name for some reason, as the towns' names are also translated, now I see I was wrong. Anyway, for some illogical reason I think it's the same person, it just makes sense to me, as a little easter egg from Bethesda.
Edit: Sorry for my missinformation, do Dunmers tend to shorten their names? More often than other races?

I noticed that too, I assumed it was the Bethesda artist who worked on the map.

If it is indeed a real person, the name is not close to the real person's one, you can't find anything about Nataly Dravalor on google or anywhere for the matter. Also it's quite an uncommon name ''Dravalor''

the latter is descended from the former.
I brought this up in a different thread a few weeks ago and that seemed to be the consensus everybody reached in that thread too. Personally, I like the idea that a descendant of Oblivion's map maker is continuing the family tradition.

Probably a descendant indeed. The last name is Dunmer, Dravalor. The first name sounds more Imperial, so probably a Dunmer from Cyrodiil.

Wouldn't suprise me if the name is derived from the actual person who did the artwork on the map. If anyone could find out about that it would be interesting.

Maybe that's because you're spelling it wrong. It's "Dravarol".

I just did a bit of Googling and didn't come up with any names. For what it's worth, I do remember that the artist who drew the maps for Morrowind, Tribunal and Bloodmoon was a male. Whether he continued to do the maps for Oblivion and Skyrim, I don't know.
