Solution to Skyrim PC crash to desktop on intro

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 11:44 pm

I posted this in the other thread and it seems it worked for a few people. Someone suggested I should create a new thread with the solution so here it is:

My sound device in windows was set to output at 192khz 24bit. When I set this back to 44.1khz 16bit it fixed the problem!

So to check, in win7 go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound

Pick your sound device that is set as default, click Properties.
Go to the Advanced tab and make sure the 'Default Format' it is set to 44.1khz 16bit.

I actually was able to set mine to 96khz 24bit and it works aswell, just doesn't seem to like 192khz.

Good luck!

I believe the default values are 44.1Khz 16bit so I don't think that this is causing the problem. But nice find anyway. :goodjob:

Also, welcome to the forums! Have a http://images.uesp.net//c/c4/Fishystick.jpg. ^_^

My sound is set, by DEFAULT, to a higher value than 44.1Khz 16bit, so if I encounter a problem tomorrow, Ill be sure to remember this.

Yes thank you for finding this. Mine is already at 44.1 so hopefully when the game unlocks I will have no problem haha

Thanks again for the fix, you've made a lot of people happy :)

Yeh, I agree. This was incredibly annoying before I figured it out.
