My Impressions from the PC version

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 9:03 pm

Been playing bout 5 hours. This is not a review. Game runs good.If you can run battlefield 3 on medium u can run this on high. The graphics are a step above oblivion but not a huge leap. So far archery is overpowered..U can sneak and one shot most stuff. The voice acting is NICE..very nice. I'm really liking the story. Yes the interface svcks for PC. WAY too many clicks to get what u want. I love exploring , caves, mines. Now onto combat. It's good and the "finishing" animation is good if canned. Im really liking this game alot. My only MAJOR issue is the unbalanced combat so far. If your fighting a bear and u lose 80% of your health u use a potion..BUT...the game pauses and u can use AS MANY POTIONS as u have so meaning you can go from 20% health to full if u have the potions..Makes the game WAY to easy. Also you regen health WAY to fast. I killed a bandit..had about 35% health left...in about 40 secs I had full health. Need a way to turn this off? Anyhow..I'm enjoying the game alot.

Honestly, this is exactly what I wanted to read - not the content, I mean.. this kind of quick summary of.. good/bad & why.
Broad and quite objective.

Thanks. :)

I agree. This is more interesting to me than 90% of the threads on this forum.

Great.

It looks like my DiD playthrough is viable then.

Well... we kinda had that in Oblivion with that heal spell they gave at the beginning... and that crappy ring that nobody ever gave to that wood elf in Morrowind... this time... it just saves us the button mashing

Ok so I hear that archery is overpowered, then I hear it isn't... I hear health regen is perfect, then I hear it svcks... I hear the graphics are TONS better than Oblivion, then I hear they are only a little better...

In summary, I think I'll wait till release to judge the game for myself.

You might just want to turn the difficulty up. It′s known that experienced roleplayers will rather be playing it on hard than on medium, since hard appears to be the "good difficulty" here.
I have a feeling potions will loose their OP-ness quite quickly as you advance in the game though. You will have to use more to restore the same percentage of your health, and thus, need more potions.

For the Interface, I personally love interfaces where you have to click more, but see less, so you wont have to scroll though miles of xbox-hueg fonts. If it′s well-organized, It′ll be perfect, I actually enjoy the little breaks where I can equip my stuff and look at the map and my items without having to fight bears and wolves. (But dragons should break the menu when attacking and making you loose all your loot).

I think this might also apply to the health regeneration. since your low level it might seem like it heals you up pretty quickly. Because you have a low HP number. (i hope)

Thanks for the good pseudo-review, K. The game-pausing is how it has been for all TES games (kind of an RPG thing). And your health regen is great right now, which might make the game seem "to easy", but I bet your HP will increase faster than your HP regen rate

As if the insta heal potions without animation and that you can chug all at once from previous games didn't make the game easy enough, they added a health regen that turns out to be too fast?

TGFM!

Maybe someone make a mod where you actually drink the potion during combat, something like Left for Dead 2 pills/adrenalines/etc. Anyway, I will limit myself to drink only 1 potion each time and no more than 3 potions for each enemy (not considering poison).

I don't know why people dislike the regen health. Seems exactly the same to me as slowly spamming a Regen spell.

This, so many conflicting reports.

Different strokes for different folks - this is the beauty of modding. Mods will come out in due course that fine tune stuff like regen and potions and people are free to change the stuff they personally dislike. It's all very well one person saying "but this is wrong", but it's something I learned long ago, that people often have wildly differing views of what works and what doesn't =p

Yea, I agree. I'm turned it up one notch. We will see. Maybe bringing up inventory DOESN'T pause the game but looking at the MAP does? Hmm..That might be good.
