I'm worried :(

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 11:42 pm

Soo i just decided to join the forums (fishystick, anyone? lol) and i'm really worried because people are complaining about the lag on PS3 version of Skyrim (got it pre-ordered, should be here tomorrow).

I've been hearing that the lag is experienced ONLY by those with the fat (aka old) PS3...i have a 80GB PS3 (old, maybe umm 2 years, i think i bought it before slim was branded) and i really can't afford to buy a slim one...how is this possible (the lag on fat and not on slim), since both versions share the same hardware (slim being smaller though)? I'm so worried...sigh

Could some one, with old PS3, say have they had any lag so far and such? i would be so happy if you guys could help :)

Thanks in advance

PS: Sorry for a messy post...lol

Hey i have old 160gb skyrim and ive heard it won't lag at all. The only difference between slim and fat is that in slim there ain't backward compatibility, i think u don't need to worry about. if u lag, refresh ur ps3 or conatct bethesda :).

What is meant by "lag"?

This is usually a multi-player term.

Do you mean controller latency? Or FPS drops?

Pretty much every review out there has mentioned occasional FPS drops on the console version of the game, but I haven't read anythign about controller latency.

Unless your PS3 has something covering it on 4 sides (top, bottom, left, and right) then your PS3 shouldn't start overheating, which means yo shouldn't lag. If it does lag then its your PS3.

I just hope the patches don't screw everything up like New Vegas.

I got the old fat one, and i only experienced lag once i had played for about 15 hours, because of overheating it. (It stood in a shelf)

multiquote does work. click multiquote on all the posts you want to quote. do NOT click reply to one of those posts, instead, click the generic 'add reply' at the top or bottom of the page.

That's great! Do you have the 80 GB version? And how is it running otherwise? Pop-ins or anything? Draw distance and view distance?

Video memory has always been a huge weakness of the PS3, but the later versions are more efficient. (By way of comparison, the PS3 gpu is 256mb, and my low end PC gpu is 1,500+mb!) I think that's what causes more lagging on the older systems, plus the smaller hard drive space.

Well, that didn't help at all :(

Consoles are also much more efficient at using memory for games, though, so the PC advantage isn't quite as big as it looks. I will be getting Skyrim for PC instead of my PS3 (that's for games I play with friends) but I think the lag will only be noticeable in some spots.
