Frames per second = crap?

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 7:26 am

Running an i5 2500K @ 4.2 Ghz
16 GB Ram
2x 6970's.

With crossfire either on or off, my rig struggles to keep the fps above 35.

This seems a bit weird.

Turn off cross fire, there are some issues currently with running the game in crossfire.

Read the first post.

Cf on or off gives more or less the same performance.

~35 fps on avarage.

Sorry, skimmed.

There was a user on the gamefaqs forum for Skyrim PC that traced the issue to faulty AMD drivers, can't really say anymore on the matter but i'll try to dig up the link for you.

Interestingly it seems that single ATI cards are also running into sluggish issues: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/615805-the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim/60952874

One 6970 should be enough to max the game alone, and since there aren't any mods out there yet that will tax your system enough to really warrant that extra 6970 you won't be losing anything. I would disable the crossfire for the meantime.

Hopefully this will get fixed in short order, I plan on adding another GTX 470 and would not be happy with this happening to me as well.

Hate to say it, but you have an ATI card - it's been pretty much a standard policy for their cards to be terrible for new game launches lately. This is probably just another case of ATI blues that will fix itself in the next driver release.

You skimmed a 15 word sentence?

Read the damn first post! Haha. xD

Again. The performance with one OR two cards is more or less the same ~35 fps.

Yes, a single 6970 is struggling with this game on max. And a second makes no difference.

Never have much trouble with them.

I;d rather get some insights or results from other people with comparable hardware, instead of just chalking it up to AMD in the first minute.

If I remember correctly, when Oblivion was released AMD (or were they still ATI at that point?) had similar issues and it look a while to release new drivers to fix the issue.

Just looked at his settings and made a post since I knew beforehand that Crossfire had issues. But if you want to press the issue and be a smart ass, go for it.

Anybody else with high end AMD's having this issue?

I expected to be able to play this game maxedout at warp 10.

I was quite shocked to find out I dip below 20's at occasion.

Kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
