Not happy at all!

OK folks, here's how it goes.
I've bought and played every elder scrolls title. I've bought some of them a couple of times as gifts. Every one of them has been great!
So I pre-ordered and paid in advance for Skyrim. Brought it home an hour ago and settled down for some quality time

Then I met Steam! And I'm bl**dy furious!
I bought this game to play, not to line the coffers of my ISP or to put up with possibly advertising and invasion of my e-mail account. I didn't want a Steam account - why should it be forced on me?

I don't mind DRM and when I read on the pack it said online activation that didn't seem to be a problem but it didn't stop there.

I object most strongly to being required to connect to Steam every time I want to relax a little.

I'm in research. Doesn't matter what I do but we spend a lot of time on jungle airstrips where there is no internet connection available so I can't even relax after work with a product that was legitimately purchased

Skyrim is now useless to me. Doesn't matter how good the game is because I'm due out again in a few days and I won't be able to play it.

I believe the requirement to maintain a constant internet connection in order to use this product is unethical and as long as that requirement remains in force I will not purchase any further product from this company.

Additionally I feel it my duty to notify any other intending purchaser of the software that this requirement will be enforced. They can then make their own decisions.

I should point out there is an offline mode which should help your problem. Key word is should.

I'm the first to knock something... But you don't need a "constant" internet connection. Just one to activate the game. Afterwards you can play in "Offline mode".

But if that infuriates you... I'd hate to see your reaction when you realize the game is a console port and the interface vomits on your mouse.

God, I'll just say it.
You don't need to be online all the time.
You activate the game, then follow instructions on steam's website on how to go offline with steam. Once you do that you are good... forever.

Also that would be a terrible running gag, it makes me so mad whenever someone goes ahead and flames steam when they haven't done any research so far!!!

lol so much win here
Especially loved the "unethical" arguement. Yes.. it is completely inhumane.

Maybe you should have researched Steam's offline mode before ranting here.

It's been known for quite some time it is a Steam game and it's on the box and it's up to all of us as individuals to research these sorts of things prior to buying it.

If you want to discuss Steam/DRM you may join in our open and limited discussion http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1253988-unofficial-steamdrm-discussion/ after reading the first post and our forum rules.
