Overpowered? Considering half the spells that were actually effective used all your mana in one cast, I don't think that is overpowered...
Taking away something that should have been improved was a [censored] move.
Agreed. Not to mention it was a legacy feature... It was the only reason I played a caster. I will be waiting for a mod to replace it before touching anything besides restoration. It needed balancing, wont argue with that. Even if it wasn't you can elect to use the pre made spells trained from mages. Removing it was not necessary.
Really? then you clearly didn't know how to make easily over powered spells.
Gems such as 100% chamillion were possible, and it wasn't impossible nor did it take much magicka AT ALL to make a drain health 500 for 1 second. It took maybe a quarter to a third of my bar and killed everything I encountered.
I find it was completely necessary. To each our own though. Like I said it ruined a lot of oblivion for me. Once I could create my own spells I just went to town. Made a 100% chamillion combo, made a drain health 500 for 1 second, made a 20 second paralyze spell. Many of the spells just weren't balanced like the core ones were.
I believe the main reason here though was due to the OP aspect and how people will always ruin the games balance in some way with such a tool while also due to the fact that magic is much more complex now then just shooting a pixel with your hand with the same effects as 20 other spells just magnified.
The spells have to be able to be combined if wielded in both hands as well as the idea that they look different from each other and have different properties now. In oblivion destruction literally recycled the same spell appearances over and over again. The spells now look and play differently.
I mainly blame the overpowered aspect though. It got pretty bad for me. Eventually I just modded it out. I also didn't really feel like I was actually creating anything. Just giving already made spells different durations and magnitudes.
Not only that but it also ruined any excitement of finding new spells from new trainers.
I prefer learning my spells from other masters. It feels odd that you somehow just sat at an alter and invented a new spell that no one else in the world ever thought of, not even the master mages.
