Bethesda, you failed :(

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 4:50 am

Honestly, what were you thinking when you made it a requirement to download the game? Did you not realise what would happen to PC users?

All of you should be aware by now that PC gamers were just flipped the bird by Bethesda. Many of us preordered through Gamestop to get the collectors maps and the actual physical copy for sentimental reasons but for doing this we now have to wait, according to the steam estimated download time, 1 day and 4 hours to play the game. Console gamers are unaffected because they do not have to download their game to their hard drive, it runs off their disc. People that preordered on steam got to predownload the game in advance. However those of use who bought the collectors edition because we love the series and are drooling over the teaser videos on youtube were given the finger and cannot just go home, plug in the disc and play. And why is that? Because the steam servers are to backlogged to keep up.

I know full well why you chose to do this. Beecause you think it cercumvents piracy. Well here's a solution for you, give Gamestop and other physical retailers the keys to the preodered physical copies so that we also can predownload the game for our selves and forget this non-sense.

I hope you enjoy my money, I'm already regreting it. I'm sure I'll enjoy the game but I do feel extremely resentful about this and with this (,,I,) I leave you bethesda.

Dude, there's a workaround. Just try to find the thread, the installer is just bugged. You _can_ install it from the disc :)

Using Steam launch options to install retail games from disc

*Log in to Steam and click on Library.
*Right-click on the game, select Delete local content, and confirm.
Insert the first disc into your computer.
Close Steam (Steam > Exit).
Press Windows Key + R to open Run
In the Run window type:

"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -install E:

Replace E: with the CD/DVD drive you are installing from if is not correct.
Replace C:\Program Files\Steam if your Steam installation is not in the default location.
Press OK. Steam will launch and ask you to sign in if you do not have your password saved. Your installation should continue from the disc.

If you can't figure it out from these instructions, you shouldn't have even bought it on PC

^^ Translation:

Dear Bethesda,

I'm too impatient, and apparently I'm brand new to gaming also to not understand server congestion.

Regards,
OP

Yes. Also you make it sound like Bethesda is pointing and laughing, throwing rocks - and forcing your face against the screen of Skyrim videos.
What are you trying to say, that every major company should stop selling on Steam?

It worked fine for me first time. Downloaded from disc. And if it had not I would have used the workaround. It seems like a steam issue not bgs issue

it took me less than an hour, and i did not preorder or preload.

also, bethesda doesn't really have controll over your computers ability to quickly download from the internet. you should have a little patience and not treat a long downloading time as a personal insult.

OP has a point. He should not have to use workarounds due to the incompetence of Steam.

He actually paid the more expensive collector's edition, and people who pay for the cheaper normal versions are having an EASIER time than him.

Steam messed up. Bethesda owes it to the fans to write a strongly worded email to Steam to prevent future inconveniences such as this. It leaves a bad taste in the mouths of loyal customers.

Isn't this on Steam then, not Bethesda? I've been hearing a lot of negative complaints about Steam the last couple hours.

Yeah, let's end this already. Voicing your displeasure is one thing, being rude about it is another.
