how do I play a battle mage ?:

Hi everyone! Its so great to have a fresh game isn't it?

Anyway, after getting the game last night at midnight release, i got home and made my character. I wanted to go with a slightly different aproach to the one I took in Oblivion, in which i usually played a pure mage or assassin. I created a Dark Elf Battlemage type character, and took the warrior birth sign. Im not entirely sure how to go about the character though.

would it be better to go with;
A) melee (1h) and destruction?
B)melee (1h) with alteration for buffs?

If B, which i think would be better? have i picked the right things? and what would be best to put my perks in? Im using heavy armour and a magic hood so i get a magika buff aswell as protection atm.

Any help would be amazing! thanks

you need to find the guardian stones that are scattered around skyrim, which contain the power of all sorts of birth signs, you can also change them whenever.
no idea where all of the are, but in the demo theres one right near riverwood.

to the OP:
if your gonna be a battlemage, choose melee in one hand and a destruction spell in the other.

Which I completely missed because my first thought after leaving the starting cave was 'lets turn around 180 degrees and not go where it tells me to'. :P

I'm still leveling up quick enough though.

You can't. Classes no longer exist. Neither do birthsigns.
It's easier that way, they say......

A Battlemage would be best played with dual-destruction spells. Go all-out magic assault.

birthsigns are still there, but you can choose whichever you want as you find them.
To me it just further the idea of total customization.

i chose thief birthsign at the get go, but im going to change it as im leveling the skills. next is probably mage so i can get quicker skillups in destruction / illusion.
