What happened to the good old days?

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 10:05 am

Now it's just complaint threads and people whining and fussing over the game they have been waiting years to get! It was great before the game came out people were posting their dreams and aspirations for the game and posting good ideas and hell, even the occasinal Troll would come stop by. Maybe we can get it back to the upbeat bord it used to be?

It's always like this when games are released, in a few weeks things will get quieter and eventually the members that just want to cause trouble will leave and the rest of us can discuss the game properly.

The vast majority is too busy playing Skyrim to post in the forums, so naturally you'll mostly get the negative posters for a week or two.

In regards to people pooping on the game, this is a natural phenomena caused by a psychological flaw in a fairly sizeable portion of human population. It’s a form of Narcissism. Generally speaking a psychologically sound person will have a natural tendency to focus on the positive aspects of their life, so if he or she doesn't like something the instinct is to move on and not dwell on it, favoring more positive endeavors. People who suffer from this mild form of Narcissism have a pressing need to give a lot of attention to anything negative in their life, so if they dislike something they have a pressing need to really hate it and voice their hate to anyone that will listen. The interesting thing about this form of Narcissism is that people who suffer from it usually don't express it verbally, they tend to be drawn to the written word. Generally speaking most really great writers and artist suffer from this condition, which is why as odd as it may seem its very likely that the most creative people on the forums are those that come on the forum and hate on the game with a seemingly inexplicable passion. The chances of them being very eloquent, smart and very artistic people is quite high. So while they are disruptive they are incredibly engaging, which is where the term Troll comes in I think. Trolls posts tend to get the most attention and the most heated responses because the people who troll are so very creative in their wording that they can disarm an otherwise pretty sane person and momentarily rob them of their self-control.

I think I'm off topic, not even sure where I was going with that... but I guess my point is that negative responses to a game, wether you like this game or not , it is a successful and well made game. Its kind of like saying I hate Star Wars and when asked why, claiming its a crappy movie. The thing is however that Star Wars is a historical achievement in movie making and if your a true movie lover, even if you didn't like the movie you would appriciate it. To say I hate it, it svcks, is to admit that you can't be objective because even if your not a fan of the movie their is an achievement their that must be reckognized, otherwise wether or not something is an achievement becomes an opinion and not a fact. I guess my point is that Elder Scrolls Skyrim is an achievement, its a successful game and even if you don't like it I would find it hard to believe that a gamer can't appriciate the creativity put into it. Someone who doesn't at least appriciate it for what it is, immediatly rings alarm bells in my head because I find it very hard to believe a sound person could look at this game and not reckognize its positive attributes.

(snip)

What a load of baloney.
So anyone that ever has anything negative to say and especially write about anything is a narcisist?
Lets turn this on its head.

When people blindly and unquestioningly love and praise something, they suffer from perpetual anxiety syndrome.
Their need to live in a perfect world where nothing ever negative happens is so great that they ignore all flaws and attack anyone that has a more balanced point of view.
This is because they are unable to seperate the issue at hand from their own personal fears of inadequacy and inferiority.
Thus they seek something outside themselves to identify with and then have to praise it to high heaven, as the difference between themselves and the thing they are praising is non-existent in their minds.

See?
I can write balderdash and piffle and well.

Now.
Its a nice game, but it is far from perfect.

There are some minor graphical bugs but the largest irritant is what has been done to magic.
It has gone from magical to mundane, their is no difference with 1000 other games, and all the versatility has been removed.
Cant even cast waterbreathing on touch.
Many spell effects are inexplicably missing.
It doesnt even deserve to be called magic. the generic of this game is thoroughly dissapointing.

On the good side of the scale their are many factors about Skyrim that make it an enjoyable game with a fantastic replay value.
In particular I am very happy with the radiant quest thing.
Straight from Daggerfall 'Oh would you get me that thing from that dungeon?"
Fantastic.

See?
One does not have to love or hate exclusively, one can form a myriad of (often conflicting) emotions in regards to just about anything.

And btw. the inability to consider shades of grey and see things as only black and white is a typical borderliner quality.

Well thats not what I said at all, so perhaps instead of sniping the quote, you should actually quote me.

What I said was "People who suffer from this mild form of Narcissism have a pressing need to give a lot of attention to anything negative in their life, so if they dislike something they have a pressing need to really hate it and voice their hate to anyone that will listen"

That doesn't mean if you have a negative opinion of the game or point out flaws that you have a mental illness. It does however say that if you are insistant on hating something because you dislike it, refuse to accept anything positive about it and spend your days on the forum constantly writing about how much you hate it... ya you probobly suffer from this form of Narcissism.

When people blindly and unquestioningly love and praise something, they suffer from perpetual anxiety syndrome.

Its not the correct name for the condition, but you are correct. Thats actually a form of Compulsive Obscessive disorder as well.
