Your rage story

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 9:30 pm

Being a huge fan of Morrowind and Oblivion, I have waited for this game for sooo long I can't even remember. I have watched all trailers, interviews, everything.
I know a dovahkin song by heart in dragon speech. Really, no joke, I am singing it every morning in the shower. Dovahkin, dovahkin, naal ok zin los varin etc.

I preordered my copy and predownloaded it in Steam. I was planning to play friday night, but it didnt launch at 00:00, so I woke up at 6:00 and waited till 9:00 when it finally launched...
I launched the game, took a look at a wagon, my prison mates and a beautiful forest... made a HUGE effort and guess what? I closed the game, and went to WORK.
Little detail - before that I switched the language to my native one, cause game strangely installed in English.
At work there was a guy, who downloaded the game there and he actually showed the whole office first 15 minutes of gameplay.

Needless to say I was shocked about how PLAIN AWESOME the game is. Graphics, animations, UI, everything. Next 7 hours of work were real HELL to me.

I just got home. Started Steam. Clicked play. And... game doesn't start. Forums say - it doesn't start if you have changed language in Steam with high probability. I quickly tried to switch language
back and forth... 1.5 Gig download on 200kb/s speed, and I don't know if it will work afterwards. This is what I think the real RAGE is.

My rage story?
I paid for it and for first class delivery, yet somehow, I don't have it.
Funny that.

Edit: Have you tried not starting it from steam? I think in the common files folder there should be an application you can start.
At least that's what I've found on every other steam game.

I would go insane if this happened to me. I've waited too long for Skyrim for my marathon playing session to be thwarted by something so...random... as a "language change" bug. Argh! I'm getting ill just thinking about it.

The only rage story I have is that the Xbox 360 version of the game is suffering from texture glitches / issues and isn't gonna be a resolved for at least a few days ( assumption ).

Mine. Its here but my PC won't run it. The PC I ordered tp run it was supposed to be here yesterday is delayed until maybe Tuesday. FedEx tracking shows it taking 2 days to get from El Paso to Fort Worth and then hanging out in Fort worth for most of the next day. "In transit" Dell and FedEx are probably getting really tired of me.

Eh. It's really not that bad. I installed it to my HDD to improve performance, cut loading times, and quiet my console. It's manageable, but I do hope it gets fixed soon.

My rage story:

Steam activation at midnight as promised, game starts up, no issues whatsoever - within 5 minutes my old but much loved keyboard breaks.... the next 2 hours are spent rummaging through the spare room trying to find a working USB keyboard or the little adaptor so I can plug a non-USB one into a USB socket (I have loads of old peripherals but my newish PC is short on the sockets for them, loads of USB slots though!) No joy, I had to nick my husband's USB mini-keyboard which I detest. Finally got a couple of hours play before going to bed at ridiculous-o'clock, and today I feel like death warmed up!!!

Then I don't mind.
I was just scared for a second somebody had stolen my game.

The worst thing for me is if I had just decided to download the pirated game, I would be playing it by now. :(

My rage story? Well how about this. My system should be able to run this game on mid-high settings, even the auto-detect recommends high settings. Right now I'm playing with EVERYTHING set to lowest settings, even tweaked ini file a bit below lowest, and I get 15 fps... indoors, outside it's really a slideshow. fan-[censored]-tastic

well, my rage story is a good one.

10:30 PM: 2 of my close friends come over in anticipation to get skyrim for PC even though we didn't preorder or reserve it anywhere. We hang out, set up their computers at my house, and get ready for an epic night of dragon slaying, and dungeon running and boast to one another about which one of us is going to kill a dragon first.

11:55 PM: We get to wal-mart and there's a decent sized line so we figure they might have a few pc copies, so we get in line. One of my friends just goes up to the front to see if they even have it for pc, they had 3 copies total.... so we're about halfway through the line and it's going around a circular desk and then they open up a 2nd register and the people in the back of the line are suddenly getting helped leaving me and my friends to watch as they sell the 3 copies to the people BEHIND US. Needless to say we're pissed so we get a couple six packs of beer.

12:15 PM: Thankfully the mall next to wal-mart has a gamestop that was doing a midnight release, so we figure "what the hell?" why not see if they have any copies left? We wait in line for like 2 minutes and get the game no problem. I drive us back to my house to install and play. I have been up since 5:30 AM and I still was wide awake and excited to play.

12:50 PM: Back at my house we put the disks in to install in our computers. Steam pops up (which I knew it would and I wasn't worried or annoyed with even having to install using steam, since I already have it) The install finished really quick but now I see the update. 5.7gb. I live in the freakin boonies with wireless internet and I get like 180kbs maximum!!!!!! WTF?!!?! I don't care if I need to download a large update down the road but a 5gb update as soon as I install? that's F***ING insulting! Why even buy the physical copy if you're forced to download of the rest of it?!?! JUST GIVE ME 2 DUAL LAYERED DVD'S I PAYED $60 FOR A GAME TO PLAY AND I GOT TO LOOK AT A DOWNLOAD SCREEN. F*** YOU BETHESDA, I WILL BE PIRATING ELDER SCROLLS VI.

so we ended up playing titan quest and drinking beer, apparently a way more fun experience than looking at steam(ing pile of S***)

I don't have a rage story. It's been shipped, and UPS is taking their time getting it here, but in the long run, it's still just a game(oh, I'm going to get flamed for that one...). There are more deserving things to rage about.

Rage Story: I had to wait through the 10th for Steam to activate my game.

At 9pm (I'm CST, so I got it the same time as the east coast, which in my time zone is 11pm, before anyone starts accusing me of haking the game or something... god I wish I could have, I'm not that good though... wait what was I saying?)... at 9pm I stared at the computer screen intently and started swearing as time slowed. Seriously, the last 5 minutes prior to 11pm, actually lasted a year. I am a year older from waiting. Plus?! It didn't activate at 11pm! It activated at 11:01:25... I could have been booting it 1.25 seconds earlier!

...This is my way of saying I had no complaints.

Oh, we weren't talking about the game Rage?

My rage story is I got the notice it's been delivered and I'm stuck at work for another 4 hours.

my rage story -

cycle eight miles in the middle of the night to buy the pc version. My little brother downloaded a working cracked version, but I really wanted to support bethesda so I went down and did my bit instead of giving in to some casual criminality.
Pick up pc version, get home, install, play, within seconds of entering the game, it freezes for 10 seconds. No sweat, I say, I shall carry on, probably just a freak occurrance. Except every couple of minutes it does this, for the entire first hour of the game I manage to struggle through. Cue exhaustive all day trouble shooting exercise with no luck.
Think '[censored] this!', and phone gamestation to ask if I can trade back my pc version for the 360 version. Oh no we can't do that, they say, you can't return pc games in this day and age! (the last time I brought a pc game was oblivion but I never had need to take it back, so was unaware of this crap system).

Ok, so, I have brought a pc version that doesn't work, with my last bit of money for the entire month, and I cannot exchange it for the 360 version, or indeed just outright buy a 360 copy because I have no money.

So I am officially skyrimless until Bethesda decide to do something about this atrocious excuse for a pc launch.

Or I could sell a kidney.
