Why do mods lock controversial topics?

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 6:25 pm

Are they scared of an argument? Are human beings the Borg? Should we always agree on everything?

If you are unhappy Summer locked your previous topic you should probably PM her rather than making a thread to moan about it. Compaining about a mod isn't the best move to make now is it?

If people were less likely to flame bait and talk about things in a mature way there wouldn't be a problem but that isn't likely to happen within certain topics

If the arguments were constructive rather than destructive they wouldn't get locked, but that's where all controversial threads end up because people can't hold their tempers and lash out.

If people here were capable of having an argument without flaming and calling each other trolls, I'm sure the threads could stay open. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen here.

I think the public has a right to know. And I have a right to complain. I actually worked for that 150 dollars and my mom did not buy it for me.

To stop arguements obviously. Unfortunatly due to the mixed population many threads pertaining to issues specific to one platform, results in players from the other platform baiting and flaming them and the topic gets locked and hidden instead of properly addressed.

We really need platform specific discussion forums...

Bethesda doesn't care, and nor do the mods. Everyone here is a statistic, that's just the way of it sadly.

I guess I imagined that 9 page thread that says Skyrim has the worst UI ever right in the title.

You didn't really make any reasons why Bethesda should develop on PC so the responses would probably have been just as un-reasonable.

I think the public has a right to know. And I have a right to complain. I actually worked for that 150 dollars and my mom did not buy it for me
.
Know what? You want them to develop on PC? I can see how Todd would want that shut down.

Feel like I'm in China... If I say the wrong thing I'm gonna be taken away in the middle of the night and imprisoned.

Didn't realize voicing legitimate concerns was grounds for banishment on internet as well.

I'm sorry :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

What rules? Did I violate Terms of Agreement when I posted this thread?

Voicing opinions is fine, it's how they are voiced that is the issue. Not necessarily by the thread starter either. It just takes a couple mouth pieces to pollute your thread and away it goes.

Rules are rules, and we all agreed to abide by them.

Actually, you did. It's against the rules to make a topic about locked topics.

If people were less likely to flame bait and talk about things in a mature way there wouldn't be a problem but that isn't likely to happen within certain topics
We allow mature debates that are in keeping with our forum rules. We have them all the time in for example, the Fallout sections. It's good for people to express their thoughts and to share issues and complain. Without common complaints how would developers know what we liked and what we don't like. I too have a few complaints about the game.

What we don't allow is for people to call one another names or to insult one another or to call one another names. It would behoove you to read our forum rules so that you would know these things. We all agree to them when we join. Here is the rule on flaming:
7. Flaming is not allowed.

Insulting individuals or groups of members and name calling are flames. Any remark that is made to insult or demean another member or group of members will be considered a flame and thus you may receive a warning for it.
Calling people a troll or an apologist for instance can both be considered a flame as can calling someone stupid or ADD. Attacking Xbox players, PS3 players or PC players is not allowed and calling them "console kiddies" or in anyway indicating someone is in some way a lesser person because of their choice is considered a flame here.

And on criticism:
8. The only criticism that is allowed here is constructive criticism and that is welcome.

Constructive criticism criticizes a proposed idea. Criticism that is directed against one person, be it a modder, another member, an individual developer, a certain moderator or a group effort are all forbidden.
This means that when you voice your concerns, please do so in a way that offers a vehicle for improvement. If you see something going wrong, feel free to say so, but also say something about how to set it right.

It also means that posts that run down other members or factions among the membership who may not agree with you are still out under the rules against flaming and flamebaiting.

And this one is why your thread is being locked:
Posting about moderator or administrator action or inaction is also against the rules of this forum.

Please feel free however to contact the moderator involved, another moderator you feel comfortable with, our community manager Gstaff or another admin if you disagree with a moderator action. Our moderators do not mind taking a second look or discussing an action with the other moderators and admin to assure they have acted fairly. So if you think you've been treated wrongly or that unfairly, be sure to send a PM. Sometimes moderators make mistakes.
