Graphics are bad even for Port

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 12:09 am

Okay

Despite maxing out the settings there is almost no shadowing, and what shadows there are look terrible, its like going around with all shadowing TURNED OFF!

The animations are clunky and the clipping is sloppy

Everything near the player has a low poly look with none of the flow.

Textures are sharper than oblivion's original but they do not fit as well, and besides who still uses oblivions old textures but console players.

I would blame the consoles, but all an all the graphics are bad even by 360 standards. The gameplay has yet to wow me enough to offset these clunky circa 2004 visuals.

I didn't think I'd see an fantasy RPG more bare and depressing than Dragon Age 2, but congrats Bethesda for showing us visuals can regress from a 2006 release! Sure the frame rate is a billion on any good pc, and Oblivion ran like bad on a topend back then, but people wanted to see more of oblivion; where is in ugly Skyrim I want to see LESS.

I agree with OP, I am not overly impressed by the way this game turned out. Howard was like, detail this and detail that...not really! Textures look pretty awful close-up.
They also claim to be using a new graphics engine, but again, the clumsy gameplay mechanics says otherwise. This is just a tweaked engine from previous titles.
This game is yet to impress me. Combat is terrible!

Certainly doesn't remind me of it.

Truly it is, and I have no idea what people are complaining about. Perhaps they want a game which only a few systems can actually run, and even these must be set to Med/High to avoid lag? Seems like it to me.

The way Howard sold this game was that close-up details would be so amazing, which it isn't. It looks rubbish.

Exactly this! Why did they lie to this about the engine? I see no massive changes, and as for those animations...

Check your drivers trollolol me and my 37" Tv doesn t have any of your issues. My textures are fine, the problem comes from the way some effects are done. Now anyway you can t expect a crisis lvl on skyrim its a port, GFX very god but not top notch, on that i agree.
Now for the engine its slightly better but the same tweaked to accept more stuff.

In this game I have seen some of the most beautiful scenes I have ever seen in a game. I couldn't stop smiling during my first two hours of play.

You can play with any game, but it's much more fun if the game is beautiful. Pretty much like playing with women ...

Exactly! Even The Witcher 2's gameplay is way better than this, so is the much hated Dragon Age 2.
They've been so busy creating pretty scenery that the gameplay and UI had to settle for what seems like very little time and effort.

The way some people say they're crappy and some say they're great are causing me to believe the PC is experiencing texture glitches like the 360.

You seem to feel he was talking about textures. Was he?

And as far as 'it looks rubbish'...not on my system it doesn't. It looks great. If you're going to bash the game, you need to make a frame of reference. If to you, Skyrim looks awful, there's either something very wrong with the system you play on, there's a graphics slider or option you can't or won't turn up or on, or, you're used to games that would make seraphim get excited. In the former case, that's not Skyrim's fault. In the latter well, good for you but 'rubbish'? No, not at all

Two different teams really. The gameplay isn't made by artist.... The engineers don't work on environments. It's worked on concurrently and by two different groups so your example is moot. They put a lot of work into everything and it really shows to me.
