Ok so I was heading from Bleak Falls Barrow to Riverwood, following the river. I jumped in and to my wonder I discovered I could catch fish. So I played with that for a bit and came across the merchant in a little camp, all by her Redguard self. I walked to her and she made some rude comment as I activated talk. I saw her wares were nothing special and retracted my conversation. She turned from me and walked to her fire, muttering how cheap I was.

Now understand I used the Crusader Armor in Oblivion, so I became accustom to not raining my wrath down upon NPC's. Suddenly I realized we were alone, and the gods were not watching, nor did they care. She was so weak, that the first swing of my Ancient Nord Greatsword triggered a fatality animation. My blade slid into her gut, lifting her from the ground and casting her to the earth. And then I learned something. If I kill a lone merchant like her, her entire shop inventory and shop gold are mine to take, and are not marked as stolen. I was so over-encumbered it was hilarious, and I had like 2-3 miles until Riverwood. I then spent 7 rl minutes walking (very slowly) back to town. I gave the guy the claw then sold him her entire stock until he ran out of money.

This game is bananas. I'm at 2468g from that and the claw 400 reward.

Pick a direction, go that way, save often, kill everything take loot, sell, repeat (hint go in a different direction)

I've been doing bounties for Whiterun and it's made me around 7k gold, most of which I used for housing. The actual pay for the bounties is minimal but you stand to come away with a lot of gold in loot.

Pretty much like that. Go after every icon that pops up on the radar, do a few dungeon runs and you'll be looting a lot of riches.

I'm not sure how well these apply to Skryim yet, but in past TES games the ways I made gold was by increasing my bartering skill and selling and rebuying items to NPC's for a slightly increased profit each time. They don't have a price slider in Skyrim so I'm not sure if that method would ever work.

Otherwise go exploring, loot stuff and try to sell it for a good price (again having a high bartering skill helps you get more gold for your items). You could choose to steal, however so far I haven't been lucky with that (even when no one was around I later got attacked for stealing).

Do quests, explore, loot and sell; the basic ways to make money. Probably slow at first as usual but eventually it should pick up.

Wait, you can continue doing bounties? I thought it was just the first bandit leader and that was the end.

alchemy and smithing do pretty well....i stay up on cash despite spending about 1k or more each time im in town.

dungeon crawling will always do well too.

im making 170g+ potions (value...they sell for a little less to an actual vendor) and im only in the 20s with alchemy.

with smithing if you make something and then buff it as well you can boost its price by another 100 and if you throw a petty enchant on it its another 100 almost. all while getting skills :)

Just pick up everything worth over 15 from bodies and sell it. I got a house and a horse pretty easily. I found some boots that gave me 25 more carrying capactiy.

Credit to BushWon04 for this post on GameFAQs:

Part 1 Make lots of Iron Daggers.

1. Kill all animals you see to get their pelts(including passive one likes deer)

2. Transform Pelts into leather and the leather into lots of leather strips(can do this at any blacksmith with a tanner)

3. Buy all iron ore you can find(dont worry this will pay off)

4. Make crappy Iron Daggers(costs 1 Iron 1 leather strip)

Part 2 Get weapon enchantments

1. Find enchanted weapon(paralyze preferably because its the most valuable but others work)

2. Disenchant weapon at Enchanting table(you can find one of these in various cityhalls along with any Jarl's mages)

Part 3

1. Get soul gems. Empty petty soul gems and lesser soul gems being the cheapest and you can steal a lot of them also from merchants. Dont bother with the more expensive soul gems or the already filled ones the goal is to make money here.

2. Soul trap easy enemies like wolves, bears, deer, bandits etc...

3. Enchant Iron daggers with filled petty/lesser soul gems,

4. Sell crappy magic daggers for 250+ each to merchants depending on your speechcraft. Considering you will buy Iron Ingots and petty soul gems the investment is about 50 gold. WIth 200 profit per dagger.

On top of being the fastest legit way of making easy money without cheating, it will bring your smithing and your enchanting to 100 furiously faster than youll level up any other skill.

Once youve killed 3-4 dragons youll have enough Dragon scales/bones to make a full Legendary Dragonplate armor(best armor in game) which you will be able to enchant and make even better with your smithing skill.

This trick does take a few visits to dungeons to get enchanted weapons and a few dragon kills but in 10 hours of work you can have more money than youll ever need, 2 maxed out skills, fast leveling up and the best armor in game early on when only crap armor is available. Hope this was helpful.

i earned 1500 from the first dungeon alone.

investigate everything and pick up everything u can. shields and weapons sell VERY well. u dont need to keep everything.

and as a special onetime only secret moneymaking strategy, look for apparel like robes and stuff. fabric has a very low weight but really high value sometimes.

I've been playing for a week and can say its easily looting. Grab a companion so he can carry some stuff. its funny, I already bought a house in Whiterun and have 5000 gold. I was doing a quest and dude said I dont look like I have much $. Yeah, he was wrong. I like the mages' robes, they weigh 1 yet sell very well.

Sell spell scrolls. Seriously...doing the bounties quests, I find 3 or 4 of them on each bounty, and the sell for almost 200g each.

Just go through any dungeon you find and try to loot everything you can and just pray that you can carry all of it... then sell the loot at shops and you should have a couple thousand gold in no time at all

MUDCRAB HUNTING. Ok, well it's not that profitable but it makes me smile remembering the fun I had with them in morrowind.
