Fan-boy? Maybe...

I did not preorder Skyrim and had planned to wait for reviews before I purchased the game, but somehow found myself walking out of my local WalMart at 12:15am on 11-11 copy in hand. Some of the hateful post I read just before had me a little worried, but I have been playing almost non-stop since my purchase. Bethesda nailed it! I did see some of the issues people were posting about negatively, but only barely and briefly. I guess all that is beautiful about this game completely blinded me to any of it's flaws. I experienced the odd interface like the rest of you, but I quickly got used to it as I was drawn in by the story and the rich and beautiful world. I realize that we all bring different expectations to a new game and even get emotionally involved, but I think some individuals are just so callus and blinded by their own hateful outlook that they are simply unable to see all the good. I believe some folks just can't be pleased. I don't want to be one of those psychoanolytic ranters so I will move on. I'm sure the individuals know who they are, and the rest know who I am speaking of.

Those that have technical difficulties, I feel for you. It is indeed frustrating to pay good money for a game and it not work. I do however think there are ways around these issues if you read a few posts. We enjoy a very knowledgeable and helpful community here at these forums. (and have for years) One issue I had was when Steam wanted to download the whole game rather than installing the content from the DVD first. A post by http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1255286-pc-installing-skyrim-from-disk-not-steam/page__hl__steam saved me a few hours. I also get an occasional freeze from time to time when out doors. I have not found a solution yet. Technical problem are the nature of the beast with computer gaming and I accept this completely. Bethesda will patch what is needed, of that I have no doubt. So find some patience and use the search function instead of raging.

Mostly what I notice is atmosphere. Howard and company have really brought this world to life. And the music, oh god the music! It far exceeds my expectations. I agree with another recent post about being overwhelmed. There is so much to see and experience that I don't know what to do first. That is a great problem to have. Todd, Pete, all the artists and code monkeys who's names I don't know, and even people in the commissary, you should be proud. To sum this up, I paid $60.00 for a game that I will play, mod, and enjoy for years to come. I have definitely gotten my money's worth. I just hope that you will continue to support PC gaming in the future. I'm going to go back to enjoying my new game and maybe, hopefully, by the time I come back most of the trolls will have moved on to their next forum and the folks with technical problems will have found solutions.

Does all my blathering-on make me a fan-boy? Perhaps, and if so, so be it. Thank you Bethesda.
