Possible to kill dragon with only meele weapon?

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 3:34 am

Hi,

with a bow its possible to kill the first dragons (I did it ^^, with meele I would die like a rat). But what if Im only skilling at meele weapons and just want to use them? Can we kill dragons later without bow and magic and fight them with meele weapons? Or will this be very hard/impossible?

I think so but it seems like you need a ranged weapon to bring them down to earth first

I just fought my first with a 2 handed sword. They land by themselves, just have cover to run to in the mean time. I also had NPCs helping me however, but it only took a few good wacks it seems. I hope their arrows and magic helped a lot, it seemed like I should have had to hit it more than i did.

I find they will eventually land, but it can't hurt to have a few shots at them with some arrows, even warriors use bows :)

Yep it's totally doable, especially after you get the Elemental Fury shout.

It's completely possible. I usually use melée and magic, but a lot of the time the dragon flies out of magic range (using Sparks, primarily) so I've just had to wait till it landed of its own accord.

P.S. as a Nord, with nearly 100% Frost resistance, Frost Dragon fights are pretty entertaining :D

I was moving between areas towards the next quest area. Out of nowhere I was swooped down upon by a dragon (this was after the first dragon you kill at the tower with the guards). Anyway the dragon was right on top of me and I had to melee it down. I did kill it but I had to use healing potions three times to heal up to 100% each time. Gotta be an easier way...maybe if I'd move more. LOL.

They do seem to land in random intervals, but it could have been because the guards that were helping me were actually hitting it, making it land just because.

I killed a dragon using only a one-handed sword today. Ridiculously easy. You can just stand there being blasted by fire as your health ever so slowly depletes, whacking it with your weapon. You can knock off about a quarter of it's health before it takes off again. Repeat three more times - dead dragon.

Whenever I tried to engage the first dragon with melee, it always managed to turn faster than me(despite me wearing light) and insta-kill me with its "grab with mouth, shake, and spit you out" move.

I've taken two out with only melee. It's actually easy (just wait for them to land).

Trolls on the other hand...

Spoiler
There's a dragon shout that forces them to land.

Ive killed most of my dragons by two handed sword. Get to a clear area where its easy for them to land, and give it some time, or run to where they usually land, as in the hotspots during battles. Once they are down i have found it easy, mainly due to me increasing only health during level ups and increasing my two handed perks as much as possible.

I've killed 3 now using two swords and doing nothing but waiting for them to land, i end up hurting them enough the first time they land so they can't take off again.

Dragons are pretty easy to kill.
