I'm torn.
Degradation was a major PITA and occurred way to quickly, didnt really add anything to the experience either. But it was a little more realistic.

Anyway I have only just begun the main quest here but I have a strong feeling it won't be nearly as good as Morrowind's. In Morrowind it takes until 3/4 of the way through the main quest to officially understand who/what you were [not counting your own personal guesses and book-reading] and what your place in history was. At the moment I don't see what else the Greybeards could tell me that would be really interesting.

With any game that has a 'hero of everything' plotline like Morrowind or Skyrim you know you're going to be the hero from the start. Its the journey to the end that makes it good or bad. And trust me there is a lot of stuff to find out in the main quest other than 'I'm a dragonborn'.

1. Lack of degrading Armor and Weapons

Good bye repair hammers! I don't care what people say about realism (in a fantasy rpg? lol?) but this was plain tedious. The lack of it is so awesome, it boggles my mind.
I didn't mind the repair hammers (except for the ludicrous idea of a hammer breaking after one use: I renamed them to repair kits which made more sense) and thought that armour degrading added some realism. On the other hand, constantly maintaining one's equipment was often a pain in the neck, there's no denying that.

And, finally, someone commented on my nakedness. I forgot to put my armor on (I do this a lot when messing around in my inventory early in the game and trying to decide which looted items to wear) and one of the NPCs I was talking to told me I should put on some clothes! Awesome.

Little touches like that make a game epic in ,my opinion

Grats Bethesda

just because its a fantasy game doesnt mean all things realistic go out the window. but i somewhat like the loss of degradation the least they could have done though is have your character appear to resharpen all of your weapons when they are doing that animation at the forge and have them restitch or re temper there armor as well.

My Significant Other took her character Jhanu into some NPC's basemant and stole a few things down there. Then she left the house. Hours later, in another part of the game world, she was attacked. Jhanu killed the attacker and found a note on his body. It was written by the NPC who owned the house with the basemant. It was a contract to kill Jhanu for being a thief. And the best part was that the note used her character's name, Jhanu ("I want you to kill that thief Jhanu for me").

That level of detail elevates this game above both Morrowind and Oblivion in my eyes.

7. getting a gooze skin about how amazing the Dragons look (Reign of Fire anyone?)

Not sure if this is good or bad, there was a period of time in my life where for about a week the only movie to play on the Cinemax channel was Reign of Fire. I've seen that movie so many times the dragons in Skyrim will probably give me some horrible flashback as they kill me..

I would have to respectfully disagree with the "polished" statement.

This
MW is my favourite CRPG but polished it was not

Was walking through windhelm today when a gaurd passing by commented on my armor
"hey thats some nice armor you got there. Dwarven make am i right?"
And then a black smith commented on something about me lugging around heavy armor and how i should share it to the less fortunate or somethin like that
I got yelled by like 20 guards for shouting in the streets.

I almost got a ticket for public indecency, too!

This game is one of the best ever made, ever ever ever. :D

I think if they had different regions with this level of insane polish and attention to detail, it would be too good and I would die.
I mean,... just imagine if there were a desert region with sand dunes blowing in the wind and dry arid rocks with Persian looking cities, I believe this is where the Redguards come from right?
It would be amazing to see a massive world of environments eventually added on, region by region.

I always thought they'd do this in Oblivion for some reason.

ps4/xbox720 that will be a crazy gen..... and I am sure we will have bigger and badder worlds..

Be a Khajit! Or explore some dungeons and look in barrels.

BTW I've always wished since Morrowind that the Khajit's Night Eye could be something you turn off/turn on rather than a 60 sec spell. Would make things less tedious and more realistic. (After all, cats can see in the dark, it is built into their eyes, they don't need to cast a silly spell!)

This and the dragon fights with lots of NPCs involved. They are just a sight to see! One of the most memorable moments for me so far was that suddenly dragon hoovered over the gates of Riften then I saw the dragon attacking the farm near by, then the guards from the city gates started to run towards the farm throwing a shower of arrows to the dragon. Villagers were running aimlessly all over the place and many guards were ripped apart, when the dragon was finally killed, some NPC said to me something like "that was tence, glad it's over".

My only disappointments are forced third person riding and the omission of left-handed shield-wielders, which says a lot! I love this game! And you have to play it on Expert to truly appreciate it!

I was using my first shout (several times) in town and a guard came up to me and asked me to stop doing that because it was bothering everyone else. I told him, whatever, and he said that even though there isn't a law for it, he'd arrest me if I kept doing it lol Awesome detail!

STOP! You have violated the law!

Haven't gotten far through yet but I have heard of loads of guilds - bards, imperial legion, winterhold and companions, dark brotherhood and presumably a thieves guild somewhere. Oblivion had less than this, didn't it? If I've heard of this many this early, there must be more to come! Maybe close to the number of joinable guilds in Morrowind?

I was actually disappointed with the lack of degrading armour and weapons.

Yea, me too. Don't get me wrong, Skyrim is awesome, but I'm thinking I'd rather have degrading items back. The OP makes a point that weapons and armor shouldn't degrade in a "fantasy RPG", meanwhile this has been a finer point of past TES games which I personally loved.

Yeah I agree, I LOVE the small details!
For an example when talking to Sinding, the werewolf in the falkreath barracks and then when you leave town the guards says "I saw you talking to that beast in the barracks, what are you up to now?"

I don't think Beth will ever make a TES game better and more polished than Morrowind, sorry
Lol, polished? are you serious?

Morrowind was not polished at all..
Oh yeah, the combat system was so "polished"

Please don't be an elitist.

Skyrim is turning out to be an amazing game and im only three hours in.

A couple of things that i enjoyed were:
1. During a quest where I needed to help this Nord kill a necromancer robbing his families grave, and the fight against the Necromancer was really fun.
2. There are ALOT less loading screens. I can actually trek across the land and not be confronted with a loading screen every two minutes.
3. Magic is awesome.

A couple of things I dont enjoy are:
1. Regenerating health is way too quick. It practically makes the restoration skill worthless.
2. The occasional bug.

This is my favorite game! It trumps even my love for morrowind! I love the little things, even dropped a bow in town by a little girl and she ran up to me and returned it just like todd said. Love the comments guards say about fur coming from my ears and smelling like a wet dog. The world is so ensnaring and immersive and i just love it. I was traveling along and saw a ghostly rider, upon following it, i ended up at this cairn. It was spooky and epic!

You realize this is only part of the elder scrolls world? And it showing only one of the northern regions. Whole continent would be waaaay too big for one or 5 games. OR they would make the game as long as DNF or longer.
