Which race should I pick for a Necro Thief. Plan on going with 1h and shield for fighting, with a bow for ranged situations. Self healing with raising the dead for magic. The only real thief part is the lock picking and stealing. I am undecided whether I will be chaotic neutral or chaotic evil in alignment.

I would also add that I don't really care for the non-human races like the lizard guy and cats.

I know I know. Those races are tempting when it comes to thief like chars. I am leaning towards Redguard.

Shield?.........for a thief?

Your best bet for thief is Dunmer, Argonian or Khajiit.

It comes down to looks and racial bonuses, really.

I still like Bretons since you can't ever go wrong with 25% magic resistance.

I agree 100%. When playing around checking the game out for the first time, my first character was a Breton for that very reason. Breton is my first choice, but I thought I would force myself to pick a different race for this one since I will mostly likely pick Breton most of the time.

When it comes to looks, that Dark Elf just doesn't look right with the eye placement.

Mage/Thief Combo - Has to be Dunmer, plus they suit the necro look if thats what you are going for. So do Altmer but they're more out and out mage. Still any race can be adapted to any playstyle so if you like Redguard go Redguard.

I went with an Orc. Not sure I will use daggers though.
