The guide - actually worth it (for now)?

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 8:38 am

So I wondered whether I should have got the strategy guide or not, since UESP hasn't got a great deal of info and help on Skyrim just yet. Would anyone say the guide is worth it at all? I was impressed with the Oblivion one but that was before I discovered the wiki and by that stage, the game was a year old and most secrets, glitches, notes and walkthroughs had been completed, as had most info on places in the world. So should I wait on the Skyrim uesp or just go out and buy the paper guide?

It certainly looks worth it

The game manual is worthless. The one that came with Fallout 3 is way better. They went cheap on the manual. When they do that they need to at least have some sort of great in game help system or put more information in character creation

600+ Pages for that price? With Prima their usual quality? I'd get it just for the good read.

It going to take a while to get info up at that site. Their kinda professional so they only like high quality articles being up. The games hundreds of hours of content will take a while to be posted. Remember that some stuff like the items can pretty much be copied from the game on the site but its gonna take a long time for people to write all those articles about quests and NPCs. Most of the fun in the game comes from finding it yourself anyway and you could always just come to this forum if you get stuck to get real time help. Buy the guide if you really want because it'll take a long time for most info on the game to be posted.

I agree about the manual. Where the hell was the blurb on how you can be who ever you want, do whatever you want on the front page? It has accompanied every TES till now.

Thanks for the replies. I might get it, the bad thing is I could have got it for only a tenner if I had added it on when I picked up my preorder. But I was scared of spoilers so declined! Somewhat regretting it now though.

I got mine for $16.19 at Amazon (got it yesterday) and it has 650+ pages and I have to say that it's very much worth it! I'd gladly buy it if it were over $50 or as expensive as my college textbooks. It's very very very good and detailed.

I wonder if they went cheap on the game manual so they could sell more guides. Sad if true. The manual is completely worthless. Read ti last night and its lke the first chapter of a real game manual. Where are the chapters talking about all the different races, the perks, the types of characters like mages, warriors, and whatever?

Going to pick the guide up in the week.

I feel as though I need it for certain missions.

Especially the one where you have to find the lady Redguard - no marker or anything!

I found the Oblivion one an interesting read regardless of the walkthroughs (actually the walkthroughs were the worst parts of the guide itself).

You certainly don't need the walkthrough, and its probably wise not to use unless you really really need help, but the other things in there are certainly worth the money
