Without spoilers, can you tell me if there are any good reasons to own property in Whiterun? What I'm asking is, is there any cool things that happen when you own the property? In short, is it worth the amount of gold?

It is worth it. I finally have place to store stuff. Hated having to drop stuff due to having no where to put it.

Typically you buy a house a bit later in the game when you have more money to spend. It serves as a good place to store your equipment and rest for free. You can also decorate it if you're into that. I'm not sure if there are any quests that come along with owning a house though.

I was wearing my Mara amulet and ended up marrying a young lady from White Run, she now lives in my house and cooks food for me whenever i come home which is lovely!
