how similar is this game to fallout 3?

Just wondering how similar this game is to fallout 3. i've been watching videos and i got really excited for it, but the more i watch the more i notice obvious similarities to fallout 3. i didn't like fallout 3 (or far cry 2, which feels similar) much, so i don't want to get this if it feels the same. don't bite my head off though :Pb

my primary gripes with fallout were that you got attacked by enemies literally everywhere you went which really annoyed me when i just wanted to walk around and explore. i don't mind getting attacked every now and then, but it was constant, and with the incredibly clunky controls, it was just frustrating.also, i didn't much enjoy having to fix my stuff all the time, gather food that didn't do much, and never have enough ammo and such. i know that's the style of game, but i didn't like it.

like i said, i want to like skyrim because it looks sweet, but i can't play a re-skinned fallout.

I think this game only has very few connections to fallout 3, enemies don't attack me a lot, i find more non hostile creatures(deer, foxes e.t.c) than hostile ones, weapons and armor don't degrade and break and no need to fix them, food now does more than in fallout as well its a really good game :) some similarities to fallout but not a re skinned fallout

They're about as similar as Candy Land is to Modern Warfare 3: They're both games, and you're trying to win in both, but that's really about it.

(Similar concept, completely different executions.)

You don't get attacked everywhere you go, I get attacked every 10 minutes ish, and that's by some wolves that die in 1 sword hit.

It's similar to fallout in that it's an open-ended world meant to be explored. However, I get attacked much less frequently out in the open than I did in fallout 3. And you don't have to repair your gear in skyrim, but the food is also useless (more so now because health regenerates).

However, the game seems to be much more challenging than fallout 3 which was a ridiculously easy game.

It's either clunkiness, or me just trying to get a feel for combat and such. (please be the 2nd one :shakehead: )

does it feel like fallout's melee? is there a delay between the button press and the action?

that was the most major thing i noticed right away. the looting and stats on items looks identical, the melee combat looks pretty similar and the death animations are identical. i don't mind all that as long as it doesn't feel like fallout 3 when you play it :P i just couldn't get into fallout.

What? The texture quality in Skyrim isn't that great, and a lot of stuff looks bleh up close, but overall....the landscapes and terrain layouts are way, way, WAY better in Skyrim than in any other game I've played recently. Look at some distant, misty mountains in Skyrim. You can go there (usually). Its not some painted backdrop, nor does it look like a really big hill like Morrowind's or Oblivion's mountains. No comparison there.
The way you loot items is identical on purpose, barring the obvious observation that the UI is new.

I would suggest Fallout New Vegas, as it was MUCH better about the volume of aggressive enemies. Skyrim is more like Fallout 3 in that way, but most enemies that attack you are leveled, and they are easy to kill (such as wolves). There are some tough enemies at certain locations though.

Did you notice that you can view and rotate the items individually in inventory? That is new.
Death animations are not identical. There is a developer diary podcast describing the new motion capture work for fighting and death animations. Maybe you were talking about the 3rd person kill cam? Still not the same!

i like having strong enemies scattered around, but i found that in fallout they were everywhere/in big groups and i was dead before i could do anything or i had to run away and eat all my food to get half my health back.

i guess huge amounts of weak enemies is fine as long as it's not like the old pokemon games on the gameboy color where you'd get constatnly attacked by level 2 pokemen when you walked through a tiny bit of grass

idk they looked similar to me... the physics and the bleeding out of color looks the same to me, but i can't say i really care about that.

i alo noticed lock picking looks the exact same.
