How to play a Dunmer?

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 5:48 pm

According to the wiki:
The Dunmer, more commonly referred to as Dark Elves, are the dark skinned elven natives of the province of Morrowind. They have red, glowing eyes and their skin tones vary from green to grey, and even light blue. They are known to be extremely strong, intelligent, and very quick, but are said to be ill favoured by fate.

In addition, they have
+10 Destruction
+5 Alchemy
+5 Alteration
+5 Illusion
+5 Light Armor
+5 Sneak
Starting SpellsEdit
Flames (Destruction)
Sparks (Destruction)
Healing (Restoration)

So from here I can see that Dunmer's are usually played in a stealthy-ninja-magic-assassin way. Am i right? So what I want to ask is... how do most people play Dunmers? What's the most common way of playing it and, in your opinion, what's the most fun way to play a Dunmer. I'm a noob, just started playing the game and I like it! Thanks!

EDIT: I'm thinking of creating a character wherein stealth and assassination is the key. More the Altair/Ezio from Assassins Creed. Should I go Bosmer for this?

I'm playing a Dunmer, started out as a stealth archer but she quickly turned into a battle mage. This game is awesome for mages. Dual wielding is spectacular. Mu Dunmer is lawful good, not a thief but not against loot of course. I like a sword in one hand and a destruction spell in the other.

bosmer and ork are the only mer worth playing my friend (not that i would play as either, im a beast mehself  )

but the starting stats do not effect gameplay in the slightest, it will not make a difference in the long run so play the mer however you want

I'm no authority or anything, but my first character in Skyrim is a male Dunmer battlemage. Currently he's level 3 and wielding a flame spell in the left hand and a mace in the right. He seems naturally stealthy but more often lights up the enemy and bashes them in melee combat. I'm going to try to use the bow more often, and I'm not concentrating on stealth the way I would with a Khajiit for example. Whatever approach you choose is fine, of course.

Cool guys! Thanks for the tips.

It just svcks though that you can't block with a 1-hand weapon if you have some spell equipped in your other hand T_T. I'm trying to go for archery primarily then dual spellcasting.

Another question is should I focus on levelling up my 1-hand weapon skills? Just wanna know what you think. :P

I am now a level 15 Dunmer battle mage, I would suggest leveling up one handed and destruction. That's what I did anyway and it has been working very well. I usually run Spark in my left hand and a mace or sword in my right.
