Not enough gold (I think).

Any of the biggest cities have houses. I haven't been to 4 of them but in Whiterun

you can buy a house once you've killed a dragon for them in the main questline for $5000. You buy it from the Jarl's assistant once the Jarl says you can.

You can get one in Whiterun for 5000 gold. Its not a bad place when you get everything in it also you buy your stuff for the house that you bought the house from and all the stuff don't cost that much.

It's like the second quest. Shouldn't take more than an hour to get to/complete it.

Can you please tell me in the form of a spoiler what I must do in this quest as I have a lot of uncompleted quests so may have ran right past it.

Save Whiterun from a certain threat, and you will be granted the title Thane, along with the right to buy a house in town. Talk to the Jarl of Whiterun.

I have not touched the MQ, all I did was turn in bounty's, after two of them and some work I got the house.

Who do you speak with to make the purchase? I know where the house it, and I have the gold - I just can't find the "real estate agent". Looking for NPCs with gold jackets...
