Archery based trouble with creatures

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 9:32 am

Hey, I have an archer/sneak based character that level 15, and I have alright one handed(20 something I think) and archery is like 35 and sneak is about 50, and for some reason monsters like frost trolls and saber Tigers kill me really easily when they shouldn't, any1 in the same situation?

Have you been putting points into health? Are you wearing good armor? Have you improved you armor through smithing?

Make sure u perk your damage for archery. They kill me easily if i just stand there and take it too...but ur an archer...jump up on rocks then down and around things until they die. Thier AI wont catch on that quick...and sometimes they just wait at the bottom of a ledge while u shoot them.

You should probably also boost your one handed, archery isn't good for every situation, especially in smaller caves or with multiple enemies coming at you. You should use as more of a "SURPRISE!" attack on enemies or to pick off farther away enemies or to get a few hits in on charging enemies.

Buy and learn the spell "Calm", and improve your Illusion. When having a tough fight, I use Calm to catch a breather when the mob comes to me, I'll take a few step away from it, sneak and hit them again. It's incredibly useful.

Edit: the skill is utterly expensive Magickawise, make sure you get the "Apprentice Illusion" perk before you consider any of this.

The think with these enemys is that they deal huge dam (i have a hard time if im not using a shield, giants 2shot me, trolls 4shot, bears and sabers 5-6hits) so kill them b4 they get to you, saber cats are an extreme example of pure offence. I try and get a sneak bonus kill but switch 2 a sword/shield combo if they find me (i play adept, lvl 27, all enchanted armor and weapons, (none custom enchanted)). Good luck hunting

wait why is your archery only 35? at level 15... I am a level 6 full on stealth/archer and my skill is about that or past it i think, I think it is at 40. Also, trolls and sabers can be challenging but if I use my surroundings to my advantage I can pull it off. The problem with archery and trolls is they have regenerative health....

It's 35 cause my one handed is 30 and alot of other skills r high like smithing, enchanting, and a couple schools of magic, raising my overal level and not my archer level

by the way you've played (smithing, enchanting, random schools of magic), you've moulded your character into one that prefers doing those things rather than combat. Thus, the character you're created is currently not good at combat.

"You are what you play" isn't just a fluffy PR line from Todd Howard. It means something :)
If I level up speechcraft and pickpocketing and sneak and lockpicking, then the game knows I want to play as a sneaky thief. Not as a troll-killer.

If you want to be a troll killer, then make sure you kill stuff while you level up. It'll mold your character into a killer.
