So I got Skyrim at the midnight launch and am absolutely in love! I'm 16 hours in, and I haven't done a single quest. I've only been to 1it city, which was Markarth. It's amazing. I've just been dungeon diving and exploring. I haven't gone anywhere to the north, or the southeast yet. Just around the starting area and to the west.

Anyone in the same boat as me?

Beth nailed the world building with this game. It's crazy to see the improvement from Oblivion to now this gen. If the rest of the cities are anything like Markarth, then wow!

I spent most of my time doing quests for the Companions so I could become a werewolf. I am Dark Elf mage/archer and I feel being a werewolf was the best way to go for melee,especially without perks. Feeding on people after I kill them heals me and also lengthens the duration of being in wolf form. There's really no right way to go,I usually go on the carriages to different capitals. I have most of the south explored and I'm only level 6. I barely have followed the main story quests but so far it has not affected me negatively in any way. Ially with Stormcloak Rebels next character. So far I just been hunting down the Silver Hand(werewolf hunters). I love this game.
