Think I must be alone on this one......

First off, please do not get me wrong here, I absolutely love the game on many levels, have no bugs, a minor problem with controls that isn't a game-breaker for me and I'm astounded by the beauty of Skyrim on Ultra.

Right, my point.

So far, in my experience of Skyrim (16 hours in) the Dragons actually spoil it a bit for me. Yep, I said it, they add nothing for me and if anything, have me saying 'oh no'.
Reasons for my arguement;

I am focusing on one/two handed. General play style is complete every itsy bitsy task available not just MQ.
When they arrive my play style and skill dev doesn't really allow me to take them on, so I run inside a (usually) convienietly located local tower and take pot shots with my bow and arrow (which I have no intention of otherwise using ever) and let the (usually) convieniently located locals do the majority of the takedown.

I saunter down/out from hiding 'steal' the soul and go on my merry way again hoping not to be bothered with another one for a few hours..........

From the comments so far, just me?

fighting dragons is really badly designed for people who use 2h weapons, i use 2h weapons but when a dragon comes along i use some destruction spells on him just until
he starts landing or i try to lure him into an open plain so it can land and i can take a few swings at it remember to always have health potions

I have found several different strategies for making them land. One for example is standing inside of the word wall if the dragon you found is located at one. For some reason it forces them to land.

I played by first 21 hours with a 2h weapon, you're ruining the game for yourself. Dual wielding is better in every way.

If I was a dragon why would I like a melee person attack me? :o

This is one of the many reasons that magic is better in Skyrim.

Not really, from what I've experienced they'll land multiple times during a fight even if you don't damage them with ranged weapons. If you're using a two hander, you've got to take advantage of the times they do land, and try to avoid their air attacks while they fly above you.

I just use a Waraxe & Restoration and don't have a problem, they always land after flying around for a bit, just make sure you are somewhere that they can land to fight you.

Or get a companion to shoot at them.

There is a dragon shout that forces dragons to land... get it.

I'm pretty positive there is a shout that will permanently ground a dragon. I'm not sure where this shout is located though. Maybe try using "damage agility" on your bow to ground the dragon quicker? Or just get a long range companion just to help during the dragon fights.

You are fighting an aerial unit so their is some logic in the idea that you are at a disadvantage if you have no ranged attack. You have to remember that Elder Scrolls is role-playing game, not an FPS. Just apply some real life logic and see the game world from your characters perspective. He is a dragon born, a dragon slayer essentially. It makes sense that a person in this situation would adapt his skills to take on dragons and so it makes sense for a dragon slayer to get good with a bow so he can shoot at the dragon when he is out of range.

I don't see how you could design a game about flying, fire breathing dragons and than try to rig the mechanic so that Melee characters have an equal chance when fighting a dragon. I mean... it just wouldn't make any sense at all. The game is clearly designed to create a more realistic fantasy world where things aren't riged. Mages are powerful, archary is a major tactical advantage and in a world like this its reasonable to assume that part of being a proper warrior you have to learn to use a bow.

So much win in this post here.
