Yea, I'm curious about this too. I saw it on that one official Skyrim trailer. Maybe they removed it?

Yeah me too. I've gotten to level 18 as an assassin using daggers and not seen it once.

I had one just a little while ago myself, so it's definately in-game. Probably triggers like any other finisher but since it's only from sneak attacks from behind I guess it's pretty rare.

Try holding the attack button down. This is how I always get my finishing moves, iirc it's how you do the assassination.

I've slit a throat from behind, it was deeply satisfying. Light armour, a dagger in hand and being very sneaky. There was no hint of any detection when I was right behind him and then I just struck and was rewarded with an awesome animation. Only a level 13 at the time and obviously perked for sneaking, no special gear, no special effort, just sneak and attack. Oh and it was in a different place than in the trailer, no spoilers from me though :)

I got one when doing a Dark Brotherhood mission..... they are probably just random sequences though.

I have no idea what causes it to trigger, but so far I think it only does it against NPCs who already have a low disposition to wards the played. So if you sneak attack a bandit, it should make it a finisher, but if you slash a random merchant, it doesn't. But that's just a theory that fits wtih what I have seen. Level 29, only stealth btw.

You gotta hold the attack button, tapping it won't trigger an execution. Not only do you have to hold it you also have to score a critical that's a killing blow.
