Broken PS3

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 3:02 pm

So last night I was playing Skyrim, about to turn it off actually, when it turned itself off forever. My playstation broke and I lost 15hrs of game progress. Sadness. Have you guys ever successfully got the data off a ps3 hard drive to put onto another one? I don't think its possible. Have looked on loads of forums about it. Anyway, I just thought I would share this distressing news with you guys. I'm going to go buy a new playstation today and start the game from scratch. It crossed my mind to get an xbox instead but then I wouldn't be able to play my blu rays.

Who's laughing now? Sorry, someone had to say it. Isn't it ironic how the new Xbox Slims have no problems like that, but the PS3 does?

I got the red ring of death on Xbox after I played fallout 3 so much. I lost all my data and they said I couldn't get it back because it was saved on my internal memory card(didn't have a hard drive).I'm playing skyrim on xbox now and I'm hoping that doesn't happen again. I suggest getting it for your pc if it can run it because That can't get any ring of death. At least I think.

@dragonslayer My xbox slim got the ring of death so they do have those problems.

The YLOD is quite often a fixable problem(depending on why), a shop a few blocks from my house fixed mine for fifty bucks all my data was recovered. You might want to look into local shops that fix game consoles before chucking your machine.

The 360 Slim still gets the RLOD and the YLOD is most common in the old fat ps3 models. So yeah after several years Microsoft is making a console as durable as the original PS3's

What do PS3's go for these days?
A brand new 360 is only $200AUD so undoubtedly cheaper else where.

PS3 HDDs are very easily removable. I'm not quite sure if you can get your saves back, but they're removable.

If you just connect to the internet (you dont have to have gold membership) your account is saved in the network. You can later recover it with the "recover gamertag" option on any xbox.

Yeah I guess I could've did the gamertag thing. But trust me I had a xbox slim that got the red ring of death. Google it if you don't believe me.

PS3's are about 300 AUD

Generally, the YLOD happens when it is left on for too long, melting the CPU's or something inside. Mine happened once when i was playing Assassin's Creed 2

Yes I did. Do some research, Slims can get the RDOD.
