Enemies don't stay alert long enough?

So I've been playing for a good few hours now. Up to level 9 so I haven't gotten too far.

One of my concerns though is I've just literally cleared a cave of about 20 NPC's. They were all hostile and within close proximity of each other.

I'd sneak, snipe them from afar and they'd go flying (deeply satisfying!...). Then their buddies would say something along the lines of "What was that!"... run to the scene of the crime, go into 'alert' mode and search for the evil doer that killed them.

More often than not they actually run to the exact spot that I shot from which is also kind of annoying as these bandits seem to have some sort of 'predator like' projectile triganomatry calculator inbreeded into them :(

So they search for about 30 seconds, and then "ah ok, well must be all clear"... or "I must have been imagining things!"...

Well no, unless you're imaging an arrow sticking out of o' Larry's neck next to you!

In any case, loving the game! just really hope this is tweaked in the next patch and they stay alert for longer. (I'm on console before any mod suggestions are made).

well it has to be somehow balanced. if the enemy would stay alert stealth characters would be gimped because you could kill only one guy and have to fight the others head on.

Yeah, it is slightly annoying. Beth will always trump the radiant AI but it always fails to arrive...

On the plus side I do really like creatures like wolves who go into an attack stance and eye you off before they attack. This allows you to back out and head another way across the wilderness.
Oblivion always just had the creature charge at you. This adds to the RP for sneaky type ranger characters.

I also think that some enemies response timing is a bit sluggish too. I have stood near some wolves and it takes them a bit to finally realize I am there and lunge at me.

You can still stealth in 'alert' mode. The bonuses still count, the only difference is that they're looking for a threat.

Yeah what kind of AI you expecting?

And if you got it, how you use sneak if they literally never went off alert due to someone being dead.

Well as soon as you'd clear out the area, those who weren't in the proximity wouldn't know anyway.

It'd only ever be a maximum of 5-6 people who were on constant alert.. until you killed them.

Just seems odd they go back to completely normal when their buddy has an arrow sticking out of his head next to them :( that's my only gripe.
