Whilst playing the game normally

I entered a cave and started my buisness. After I skilled in sneak I noticed that it only said 24 when I knew it was higher, so I checked my skills and noticed that some(not all) had been reset/lowered to somewhere between my current and the defeault levels. Some skills had actually increased in level.
The skills affected were the ones I focues on, mainly stealth and some in magic. Perks where not affected. I'm playing as a Dark Elf, if that is relevant.
I reloaded some of my previous saves but they were all messed up. I've used the console command, "showracemenu", to change my apperance several times and perhapse that messed it up as it did in Oblvion but considering that you don't chose any skills that doesn't make any sense.

Does anyone else had this problem and any ideas on how to fix it? Currently, my only solution is to start over and i'd hate to do that.
