Could someone tell me please:

If I put items on shelves / etc in MY house, will they eventually disappear, or stay there untill I pick them up?

Companions - If I tell them to wait, how long will they stay at the spot?

1) Any items you place in a house will be there permanently, inside a container or out.

2) Forever, most likely.

The point of a house is storage, so I'd assume stuff wouldn't disappear unless there's a glitch.

I don't use companions, so I can't speak to your second question.

I'm worried about companions because of the Fallout and NV experience. Saying "wait!" and seeing your companion disappear forever wasn't exactly rare accident.

I've seen posts of people spending hours decorating their houses and things keep flying off the shelves.Also does anyone know of a way to dismiss followers like in FONV in case you lose them or they get stuck in a rock.

I believe that there is an option that says "I think we should part ways", or such.

What if you lose them.

I'd say wait for mod. I am very sure there will be one to track / dismiss them without talking to them. Maybe there even is one already, I don't know. There should be some console command too I think.

If you tell your companions to wait, they will get bored after a week or so and return to their home.
