tips on breaking weapons, enchanting etc

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 7:07 pm

Hey guys

Can someone run through how to do this? I wasn't listening the first time I found a table.

I have two enchantments available to me, extra magicka and extra health I think.

How do I get more enchantments?
It's not giving me an option to break weapons, what do?
generally, how the hell do I use this feature HELP!!!

When you find an item that has enchantments that you don't mind losing go to the enchanting table, highlight it and select disenchant. This will give you the knowledge of that enchantment that can then be applied to an unenchanted weapon using a filled soul gem.

a filled soul gem

ok I have found soul gems, 6 of them I think as well as fragments of soul gems. How do I fill my own?

And I have killed 4 dragons now, two of them random encounters and I have taken their souls. Where do their souls go? Can I use them?

You can fill soul gems by using the Soul Trap spell on monsters, and then killing them while the spell is active. Different monsters have different sized souls.

Dragon souls are used to unlock shouts you've obtained.

I'd assume also that filled stones can be found in the world, in dungeons and the like. Also in shops sometimes they can be bought.

I have one new shout 'unlocked' but it's greyed out and has been for a while. I have killed dragons and it's still greyed out and unusable. thoughts?

also, I've killed a few saber tooth tigers and giants and stuff, so a soul catcher thingy would be ideal. Do you know where to learn the soul trap spell?

yeah that's where I have found all of mine. the bounty letters you get here, when you go to kill the bandits there's usually some nice things to loot.

Enchanted items can be bought (very pricey) or found in dungeons or other areas of interest. They can also be awarded for doing quests. Soulgems, like enchantments, can be bought (pricey) or found. I advise buying empty soulgems and filling them up yourself, as it is more cost effective money-wise.
Spoiler
Azura's Star is also available for a quest.

With Smithing, enchanting can be very profitable if you are curious. Make the stuff, then enchant it. I do it, and I make tons of money off of it.

@ craven,

I have been gifted some weapons and found some. I got a green battleaxe off an easy quest and found a bow and arrow set that sets people on fire (lol) but after a while the enchantment wears off and I can't refill them.

I ended up giving the axe (as well as about 300 weight of armour and weapons) to my companion sven who had died about twenty times before but got killed by a tiger and suddenly disappeared along with all my stuff :\

The greyed out shout has been learned but you need to unlock it. On Xbox you do this by highlighting it and pressing X. This will use up one of your stored dragon souls.

If it's like Oblivion I beleive Soul Trap is under Aleration magic. You'd need to find a trainer and train or cast these kinds of spells to level it up to purchase the higher level soul trap spells that give the highest type of soul. Ther is a heirarchy, like petty > common > grand something like that. Grand Souls will give the strongest enchanments but again you will require the appropriate training. I haven't notice any with spells for sale yet but I'm sure they are out there. Perhpas at the Magic School...

this game is so confusing to a nub!!!

I hope my dragon souls have been automatically storing themselves.

the only game like this I've played was fallout but it was easy to comprehend because it didn't have all the spells and fantasy stuff. it's like speaking a different language. I am jacks immigrant.

Ah that svcks. My advise is to take things slow before going into more adventuring. I would get my smithing, enchanting, and gold up by doing this:

1. Purchase some petty soulgems, find a good enchanted item that has a powerful and expensive enchantment like damage stamina, and some material to make iron daggers. Soul Trap is also needed, so you may want to get the spell or find an enchanted weapon with it.

2. Make the daggers, breakdown the enchantments, and go fill the gems. Mud Crabs and Wolves are easy, but other animals such as deer will do (if you can catch them).

3. Now go enchant the daggers with the expensive enchantment. Each dagger's value will go up really high compared to what it was.

4. Sell them. You should make a good profit doing this every so often, and your skills will go up as well.

Hope this helps, and I advice doing this near Whiterun.

You don't need a soul gem for dragon souls. You store them in yourself. Soul gems are for enchanting and recharging magic items. Dragon souls are only used for Shouts. Your dragon souls have indeed been storing themselves. You can see how many on the magic page. Bottom right.

Trapping other souls is very easy. 1. Cast soultrap. 2. Kill something while the spell is active. 3. It's soul will be trapped in the smallest gem in your inventory that will hold it.

That's all there is to it!

Remember, this DOES NOT apply to dragons. With them, 1. Kill dragon. 2. Stand near it's disintegrating corpse. Done.
