Give us a blocking action

You obviously are very ignorant when it comes to ancient/old fighting techniques, so stop arguing your point from that perspective (in response to your first, second, and third sentence), that way you wont make a fool of yourself in that regard.

I just thought it would be nice to be able to block, Im not complaining about it, just saying that i think it would be nice. The inability to not be able to do so because they are more concerned with the ability to play the game on a bloody gamepad, well, that just makes me sad, but dont want to get into the whole consol-ification argument here.

In the interest of not starting a flame war with people, this is my last post on this thread. I originally just wanted to add my support that i think being able to block with dual wielded weapons would be nifty.
Me ignorant? I don't see you posting any proof of techniques that disprove me. :) Also you didn't "just thought" it would be nice to block. Your posts come out as complaints not "ideas" or "would this be nice" stuff. Also I am not the only one who thinks you are complaining. So because we do not agree with you, I am ignorant?

Also another reason, why there is no blocking with a weapon in Skyrim, is how the game on the 360 and PS3 works. Each trigger is a weapon attack now, unless the left hand is equipped with a shield and it blocks insteads of attacking. The computer will no way know if a weapon in the left hand is to be used for blocking or attacking when the left trigger (or what ever PC equivelent is).

Would it be nice to have? Yes, but then you should still recieve damage and weapon should degrade faster (as a penalty for using an attacking weapon for blocking). I think it would be "look of cool" of using 2 small swords and be able to cross them as an X to stop a sword from hitting you.

I do agree with you, but the way you said it, I do not agree with you, and came out the way I did. Just look at the other posts, another person even said "want to block use a shield", so you can see others see you as complaining as well.

Most of us love Skyrim, I am not here to argue with you, so if I offended you, sorry friend. :)

Again, what button would you use to block with? The block button is an attack button when you dual wield.

One of the other 80 buttons on the keyboard.

Oh i forgot, xbox controls, this is 2005 not 2011 i forgot.

Better have their 6 buttons dictate what PC users 100 buttons can do.

My bad.

You can't have everything you want.

Deal with it and move on?

No?

While I personally do not have as big of a problem with this (at least we have functional dual wielding, so baby steps) I do see the validity of this complaint. For those of you saying to get a shield if you want to block, or you can't block with melee weapons, you guys really need to learn the basics of melee weapon combat. We need the ability to parry when we are dual wielding. Allow the player to still take some damage in order to offset the damage bonus with two weapons, make it ineffective against ranged weapons and spells, and make it so that it has to be timed just right for the full effect.

The issue I see with why this wasn't included is because of the lack of available buttons for controllers. I'll skip over the rant about how this is just another example of consoles restricting PCs in terms of gaming and jump right to alternate ways this could have worked, but probably never will since the game is completed and Bethesda most likely won't want to add this. Since parrying with a melee weapon is basically meeting an attack with forward or sideways momentum, they could have coded this in by having the player press the attack button (perhaps press both buttons simultaneously, just like dual-casting) as an enemy is swinging their weapon. A successful parry would bring one or both weapons in line with the enemy's weapon(s) and block the attack. The other alternative (for the PC at least) would have been to assign block to a separate button.

In the end it doesn't really matter, because unless Bethesda wants to go through the trouble of adding it, we aren't likely to see it happen. Sure, there's a chance that someone will figure out how to mod this into the game (which I will gladly sing their praises for), but given the changes to the core gameplay that would have to be made, I don't see that as likely.

Still, we have functional dual wielding now, and I'm very happy with that.

Perhaps instead of blocking, hitting a foe's weapon while they were swinging could achieve the same result? It would require more detailed hitboxes and more skill, but the skill would balance out duel-wielding.

I'm not sure what you are saying? You mean actually attack the enemy's weapon? That's an interesting thought.

You can block with 1 sword, but not with 2. It just feels wrong, and it feels wrong because it is.

1. It's overpowered.
No, it's not. The OP argument is pancakes because removing a feature does not balance it. I understand the need for a drawback to dual wielding, but strictly prohibiting a player from taking any sort of blocking action is silly. A combatant holding two swords is just as capable of holding them up defensively as someone using one sword or a shield. There's no physical or physiological reason that blocking should just be "deleted." Obviously it needs to be less effective than a shield, or even a single weapon block. Perhaps it needs to have almost no effect, I can understand that. But a lack of balance on the part of the developer doesn't mean that the ability should just go away. Example, Shield block 100% effective, Single Weapon block 50% effective, Double-Weapon block 15% effective.

That is balance. The "Delete" key is not.

2. The animation doesn't exist.
That's circular. The only reason there's no animation is because they didn't include the ability. I'm asking them to put it in, animation and all. Crossing the weapons comes to mind.

oooohhh maaan i suppose that when my mage has a sword in one hand and a spell in the other he cant block either? is that correct? (maan all weekend i was trying to figure out why my mage wouldnt block anything)

Where in the control scheme would this two handed block be? Especially on consoles?

Except it WOULD be overpowered. By a mile. Dual wielding already has the highest output of damage by far, and benefits tremendously from perk selections and enchantments more than any style of melee.

Blocking is out. Deal with it.

Well if you dual wheld swords then mages should be able to dual cast Firestorm and block as well right?

Perhaps a random parry type attack but not full block.

As Tale has been saying, there is no button for it on a controller, therefore the developers will not put it in.

Who cares how realistic it is.

Try blocking with a sword in one hand and a spell in the other. It wont happen. Button layout my friends. It's a conflict of commands, and the attack one is more important.

Once again, realism =\= balance.

Even if it only blocked a little bit, what would be the point of putting it in? Both triggers are already used on the Xbox controller so it would just complicate the control scheme. Different weapon types are designed to cater to a player's playstyle, not what they think looks cool. If you think it looks cool and really want to use it, then learn to use it as it is in the game right now; don't whine and complain about it on the forums.

It's very unlikely that anything will be changed however; big titles like Skyrim never release patches post-release that alter the gameplay in drastic ways like blocking while dual wielding would.
