One tiny complaint... arrows through the head!

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 2:13 am

Hi guys,

Having the best time ever with Skyrim so far... however the concept of arrows penetrating all the way through your character's head is an immersion-breaker for me. I know it's a fantasy land and all, but I can't think of one situation where someone would get shot through the head with arrows and still be alive to keep fighting and talk about it.

"'Tis but a scratch!"

"A scratch? You have an arrow sticking all the way through your head!!"

Anyone else feel the same way? Any chance Bethesda (or a modder) can change this? It's annoying beyond belief. I find myself reloading whenever I get shot through the head because I just can't rationalize still being alive and in near-perfect health after seeing this happen.

"Only a flesh wound."

I accidentally got a headshot on a bandit in the Bleak Falls Barrows. It was a sneak attack and was an insta-kill. When I investigated the corpse and saw the arrow through his skull, I felt pretty BA :) (even though I knew the headshot didn't cause the OHK).

Did a search but didn't find it. I'm not talking one-shot kills, I'm talking changing the arrow graphics so they don't go all the way through your skull (and helm) and halfway out the other side.

lol yeah i know what you mean. found a higher level necromancer and put an arrow through his mouth, a second between the eyes, and as he turned to to flank me a third through his ear.... im sorry but those are three kill spots. at least give a guaranteed critical.

People truly are never happy. It is a game. Magic, dragons, a different world all together, different species, creatures, but this you have a problem with? It is an RPG not an FPS. One shot kills would completely ruin the game. And do you even understand how difficult it would be to change all of the arrow animations? Get over it. There needs to be a petition to stop these kinds of threads. /end rant.

I think there would be a lot more complaints about how everyone's characters keep getting headshotted...

Do a google images search on "arrow through head".

People and animals survive arrows completely penetrating their heads all the time.

That said, the problem here is lack of hit locations. In Skyrim an arrow through the head is as fatal as an arrow through the hand.

I can see where you're coming from - I had something similar earlier, I had an arrow in the shoulder except it didn't penetrate, so it was just sort of hovering with the tip about a centimetre from my armour... so jarring. It was ok at times because I play FP, but when I got on a horse or used any equipment (ie forge, enchanting etc) it would switch to TP and I could see it. Tried everything to get rid of it, eventually went after about an hour.

It s not only your head.. it s for game balance purpose, 50% of the time the thief fleeing from the decapitation in the introduction dies with an arrow on his calf.

There are actually reports of people walking around with knives in the back of their skulls (literally inches deep) and living. The thing is is that they forget where they are and get really confused, they also can't feel the payne. So, an arrow through the head isn't IMPOSSIBLE, but highly unlikely. Think of it that way. Also, this is a phantasy world, how do we know the laws of medicine from our world apply to theirs?
